There was a groan, and it took Yamato a moment to realize it was him. He was feeling pretty grilled now, and regaining his bearings like this was pretty hard.

It wasn't the worst pain he'd ever experienced, but he had no problem admitting it was pretty damn high up there. He was glad that he'd already been planning to cut an explosion. Yamato very much doubted he'd even be walking right now if he hadn't.

As things are right now, though, if he ever had to fight alongside Sun Crow again, it would be way too soon. Those two seemed to have things handled for now, at least. Yamato takes a moment to instead catch his breath and wait for a safe opening to strike, keeping his sword up in a guarding stance.

Recover, attack if the Zoanthrope leaves itself open. Stay defensive otherwise.

Use last 4 for healing magic on Yamato, then start kicking lesser zoanthropes from the weakened group.

Turn 4, Draco Zoanthrope Group
[Now Playing: ~The cyborg fights~]
Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
As people begin checking out what, exactly, just happened and appropriately running from the giant dragon-bat creature currently floating above a gas station, Ai tells them all to start clearing out. Not that they needed much commanding; by now, most of Touto's citizens know that the best response to Zoanthrope attacks is to run and let the Eden Foundation or the magical girls take care of it. Indeed, not two seconds after Ai's warning, the screaming of civilians running for cover can be heard below, and the flashes of cameras seen; after all, superheroes having a fight on your street? Not a common sight, even in a city like Touto.

[Now Playing: ~Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom~]

Haruko charges up a beam meanwhile, a (metaphorical) fire coursing throug her veins.  This dragon-bat, this Zoanthrope was powerful, it was a threat, yes. It was fire, a blazing, mobile inferno, a sundowner wind prepared to set all it blew upon ablaze like candles at vigil. It was a raging wildfire in the form of a living creature, lashing out endlessly against those that hurt it.

But you are brighter. You are hotter. You are the Sun.

And you have beams. It doesn't.

A searing hot burst of gathered plasma blasts the Zoanthrope dead-on in the air, Haruko feeling her own body start to ache and burn from the strain of unleashing such a powerful attack on the Zoanthrope. You can smell the burning, the scorching, and hear the loud screech of pain as the wyvern's body is seared from the outside in, plasma pulsing around it. You're sure you've inflicted enough damage, plenty of damage to it.

[Now Playing: Enraged Zoanthrope Theme ~Atal-Ka Phase 3 Theme~]

But it's still in the air. Still furious. Still flying. And still inexorably advancing towards Haruko with all the force of a great cyclone.

Time. Time is not on your side.

Turn 2, Aranea Zoanthrope
Zoanthrope Engaged
[Now Playing: ~Pray Me Revive~]
Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
Ito continues to focus himself, hanging back from the battle, trying not to get in the way of the beast. Horrors were a lot less troublesome, probably. On balance, though, getting the acid blood of a Zoanthrope on you was probably less horrible than getting that of a Horror's. Not that your jacket would agree, after the last time your blade cut through this thing's body.

Ragnar falls back for a moment, the burning pain of the acidic blood coursing through him for a moment. The insects on your body begin to fill your wounds, sloughing off your armor and into your very skin. You feel very naked, your armor whittled away, but the burning stopped, and you're almost better now. Almost.

Maki surges towards the Zoanthrope again, her fist smashing it aside into a nearby lamppost which bends with the sheer force.  The creature, however, instead of retaliating, falls back for a minute, clearly staggered by Maki's punch, as several plasma blasts sink into its body from Kiyo's direction. Kiyo stays in position, not having to dodge much, as the spider seems to be biding its time now, understanding exactly what it's going up against.

Seemingly changing its mind, it stays on the defensive for the moment, looking for an opening, searching around, all eyes on Ito. Should it find one, of course, it will leap pretty much immediately on him, and using its arms to hold off any well-intentioned interference.

Spica, using the distraction of the rest of you, heads off to tend on the fallen troopers, hurriedly in case the beast decides to turn on her.

Ragnar got up to get in front of Ito. But the pain and the fact that he didn't look where he was going meant that he didn't see a piece of rubble in front of his foot. This caused the bug boi to trip and fall, rather embarrassingly. He decided to wait there for a second.
Wait.

The zoanthrope was nearly gone, it was clear. But everyone was hurt... screw it, if it was gone, then it couldn't continue to hurt them.

Use first 4 for Healing Magic on Sato. Then, use a Will point, and use a 5 for Hit and Run on the draco zoanthrope, making use of the momentum built up by the distance flying to it!

Yamato let out a sigh of something like relief when he felt the healing wash over him, but things weren't over. The Zoanthrope was on its last legs, though, and Amelie seemed to have things handled. His legs tensed just in case, but that was more past experiences talking.

There were more pressing targets, anyway. Just like last time, the Zoanthrope had all its little minions remaining after the fight. A group fight, and fliers, too. Fun. Yamato prepares to keep moving, and clip the wings of any swarm that gets too close.

Use a 4 for Turning Swallow Cut on whichever Swarm approaches first.

Ito wouldn't give it one, beginning to circle around the spider, keeping his eyes on it, keeping it distracted as he studies its every little movement, prepared should it charge to dart to the side if necessary.

Center again.

With the Aranea Zoanthrope focusing on Ito, Kiyo decides that this is the best opportunity she'll get to attack.

Use Full Power to Weaponry and blast the Zoanthrope with a barrage of plasma rifle shots!

Turn 5, Draco Zoanthrope Group
Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
[Now Playing: Enraged Zoanthrope Theme ~Atal-Ka Phase 3 Theme~]
The Zoanthrope's inexorable advance continues, its body smoking, eyes flaring with atavistic hate. This wasn't the directed, loathing hatred that was with the spider yesterday; no, this was pure, fearful hate, the kind of hate a rat has while cornered, bleeding out from its side, its killer staring it down with animalistic hunger, the kind of hate that a boar has for a hunter with a spear as it springs forward to try to gore them, taking you down with them even as its flailings drive the spear deeper and deeper into its mortal wound.

Haruko is the hunter. The Zoanthrope the boar.

The Zoanthrope plans to take Haruko with it.

It's coming in fast, far too quickly to dodge, far too quickly to avoid....

[Now Playing: Amelie Override ~Gravity Rush 2 Boss Theme~]

But Amelie is faster.

Rushing past Yamato and healing his wounds with a touch of her hand, you run across the roofs, adrenaline pumping right through your veins. The blue lines criss-cross your skin, gravity magic taking you soaring across the tiles. This thing could fly, this thing could breathe air hotter than most fires, yes.

Against Haruko, it was a candle going up against the Sun. Against you, it's a sparrow fighting against an eagle.

The air is your domain. Yes, Maki could punch harder, throw people through buildings, bring skyscrapers down with a single punch and zap her enemies with lightning. Yes, Haruko could shoot out superheated beams of plasma and burn down the entire city if she so desired. The two of them were flashier, more destructive. But they didn't have finesse.

In the air, you are superior. In the air, nobody could match you. The sheer amount of acrobatics necessary alone would make it impossible. And this creature didn't have it. In the air, you alone here can really keep up.

The Zoanthrope attempts to blast you with scorching winds, but you're fast enough to dodge. Your skin feels the heat, a stark comparison against the cold of the night breeze, as you tumble over it, the wind blowing your hair back. This was your moment. This was where you belonged; the sky. Nobody could touch you here. You land against another roof, trying to build up as much momentum as possible, but you don't have time, not enough. You have to make do with what you got.

Somersaulting once more into the sky, you direct all your weight, all your strength and all your power into one point on the Zoanthrope's back. You land your foot squarely onto the jet engine embedded in its back.

The jet engine practically explodes with all the force, sending the beast screeching towards the roof where Ai is on as fire erupts from its back. Ai being Ai, it doesn't take very much effort at all for her to flick her hand aside, throwing the beast away from the roof (and the very flammable gas station) and into the nearby road, the sheer force knocking over a nearby street light as Amelie lands next to Ai, her job done. The beast lets out a pained, low groan, the hole where there was once a jet engine in its back set ablaze, and the rest of its body smoking.

The other swarms of smaller Zoanthropes were seemingly only there for the larger Zoanthrope, for once Amelie sends it packing, the swarms seem to disperse, flying away from the battlefield and leaving behind the defeated body of the enemy, smoking on the asphalt nearby. Nearby, the sounds of fighting at the hospital can still be heard; the others must have encountered another Zoanthrope.

The Draco Zoanthrope has been defeated.

Turn 3, Aranea Zoanthrope
[Now Playing: ~Pray Me Revive~]
Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
Ito continues honing hs mind, focusing all his energies on his sword.

There was one opponent. In a group situation, you aren't great; you have to stay back, let the others handle it. Maki, Kiyo, Haruko, they were better at dealing with groups of monsters. You are better in a single, one-on-one duel; after all, that's how it normally is with a Horror. Zoanthropes, you've learned, are a little different; they come in packs, far larger than the typical Horror, to the extent that one person would be hard pressed to fight the things.

But this creatue could be handled exactly like a Horror.

The Zoanthrope lunges at you suddenly, but the earlier blows it took from Maki and Ragnar are taking their toll. Its earlier elegance is disappearing, its movements unwieldy. The lunge falls wide; it's faster than you, but you were already moving to avoid it earlier.

Ragnar sits at the sidelines, waiting for a moment to strike.

Then the mother of all tag-team attacks hits it.

A blur of silver and red collides into it repeatedly, lightning sparking over its body as Maki lands crushing blow after crushing blow into its body, each punch landing with the force of a small truck, sending it skittering and tumbling aside with each blow. The final blow sends it tumbling backwards as Maki staggers away, groaning in pain as electricity wracks her body. As it staggers aside, however, a series of expertly aimed shots sink into each spot Maki's blows landed on, and two hit it in the eyes, causing it to recoil in pain as the plasma burns out its eyes, even as they rapidly regrow, as Kiyo takes aim, concentrating on each shot to ensure they cause as much damage as possible.

The spider glares at Kiyo and Maki with immense hatred, its wounds already rapidly closing, though you can sense it's close to falling over. It stalks towards you, ready to pounce, ready to lash out, do whatever it must to destroy that which has already massively wounded it; between Maki being crippled from her own attack and Kiyo being overly exposed, this doesn't look good for either of them.

Or not. A strategic retreat? That was... well, Yamato would prefer to deal with them now, but he wouldn't complain. After all, his body felt like it had been fed to a grill/rolling pin combo.

Well, that was the unfortunate fact of this fight, wasn't it? Yamato had to face the reality that, for most of the fight, he had simply been absolutely bodied. It wasn't a good feeling. Still, no time for self-pity. That could wait. He calls out to Ai instead.

"Hey, Ai. You doin'... Are you doing alright over there?"

Ito wasn't going to allow that. This was the hunt. He considers for a moment. The classic thing to do would be to armor up, end the creature as quickly as possible using the massive strength boost that gave him along with his existing experience.

He didn't do that.

For one, he could only call on the armor once a day, and only for 100 seconds, and there was another one of these things, possibly a stronger one, nearby.

and on top of that, this thing was already broken. It just didn't know it yet.

So he starts walking forward, sword in hand, twirling it idly to build up momentum.

It didn't seem very much to a normal person. After all, he could hold that sword in one hand without much of a problem, surely it's not *that* heavy.

on the other hand, that sword is made of soulmetal. Blades like it, unless attuned, can't even be moved by heavy construction equipment. It was only his attunement with the sword that let him use it at all.

So, as he reaches the spider, he flips the sword so the blade runs paralell to the spider's leg, his grip changing from that of a swordsman to one more akin to a batter, and lets it fly, not wanting to shear it off, and, just for a moment, releases his attunement to the sword.

And then a blade heavier than most cars, already accellerated from his flourishes, slams into the spider's leg.

And again.

And again.

Don't cut. Break. Blood is only a problem if it spills, after all.

Center. Alter to 5.

"Yeah! We kicked its butt!" Haruko pumped her fist as she alighted, bouncing back up into the air with the motion for a moment before finally coming to rest in front of Yamato. "I'm gonna go find the other one!" Fortunately for the temperature of his. . . everything, Haruko whirled and ran a few steps away from Yamato before rocketing off toward the sounds of battle - though this didn't prevent the swordsman from nearly being sideswiped by an errant wing.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, Yamato, on the receiving end of a faceful of wing, reaches out to push it away because fucking eww it was getting into his burn wounds.

Except that he ends up grabbing the wing instead. Screams are probably heard when he is dragged along, the sound of Haruko Airlines claiming their first victim.

Haruko made a startled-sounding squawk at the sudden, unexpected weight on one wing. What would have been a relatively clean takeoff turned into a lopsided lurch left, her wings beating frantically to try and compensate for the extra load. "Whuuah- Yamato? Let go of my wing! She didn't sound offended, per se, but it was fairly obvious that the already-unskilled flier was having trouble dealing with it. "If you wanted to ride me, you could have just asked!"
