Since we do not yet have tracks laid out for the Markata, the enemy won't know we built it and will thus only get info on it's existence when it comes into action - at which point they'll be 2 turns behind in terms of logistics unless they make their own train soon.

Additionally, weren't cannons getting cheaper this turn? IIRC it was either this turn or the next. Given that, we might see the Sobek becoming cheap the turn after this.

Cheap Sobeks? Oh Ra the salt Karikhita is gonna have over that :D

As for the tracks, you kinda need a train to put on the tracks so odds are they might end up even further behind.

Battle Report 10, 1899
Over the year we have confirmed that we truly do rule the waves, when we really want to anyway. The Sobek class Nushunefu is an ironclad we made equipped with our new artillery and smaller Djer-Khenthap cannons along with four inches of armour at the belt. We expect to kick the Khants out of the sea with this no matter what they do. We also worked on the Markata 2-8-4 Steam Locomotive Series-A model 1899, which is a train that should help our transport and industry, once we lay down the tracks needed for it to run.

Our enemy meanwhile has made the Ayanga QF-12cm L40, a artillery peace not too different from our Djer-Khenthap's. It has been equipped onto their own ironclads along with being used on the ground. They also seem to have made both flare arrows and flare guns for their soldiers to use their new guns a bit better. Still, we predict nothing but a extraordinarily lucky shot or a shot at point blank from their gun will be able to do much of anything to our ships.

Battle Report, Naval Combat: The new Sobek class is just what our navy needed, able to deal with our enemy ships quite well, they can withstand our enemy's guns at long range with ease and the Luu with a few good hits will go down under the waves, and the Yalagdashgui are too slow to do much of anything to us, while we just take out their sails and paddle wheels and leave them, or occasionally go in to finish them off at close range, which only our Manganese shells will penetrate their armour. Of course, we aren't invincible. Crew can still die on the deck, and our turrets aren't immune from fire. A skilled and coordinated group of Luu's can take out both turrets with causalities if they come close enough, although to do that they would need more numbers then what they have. Still we pushed them back and now we have a nice minor advantage to show for it.

Battle Report, Ruins/Mountains. Attackers, Nafuna, Karikhita: The fight for the ruins and mountains is basically like both sides throwing swords at a well made stone wall trying to get to the other side so they could kill the other person, quite simply just dulling the blades and making little to no progress. In defense we are better equipped with our Sekhmet's, in offense, they are better with their much more mobile Shuurga and their better rifle. From the fighting, we find ourselves tired and with no land retaken to show for it, but we don't get pushed back at all either, and we are quite certain that to an extent anyway, the Khant's have a slight advantage in their attacks, but with our defense and our Sekhmet's, its not enough to push us back by much at all. The lines remain stagnant, neither moving foreword or falling back. [Nafuna 0/4, Karikhita 4/4]

Battle Report, Hills, Attackers, Nafuna, Karikhita: The introduction of Karikhitan Artillery has a interesting effect, their shots are less damaging to us, as they are smaller shells, but they still do damage when a Khant officer takes out a bow and fires a flarerrow at one of our Sekhmet guns or anything else important. Another thing that actually happens now is that some groups of artillery no longer help our soldiers on the battle field, the officer on watch constantly scanning for the sigh of Karikhitan artillery shots to shoot at them and take their artillery out. The Karikhitans do this too, however, and oddly enough, they seem to have more guns then us. Still, the fighting on the ground is mostly won by the Karikhitans, with a superior gun to ours and with more artillery support, along with of course the ability for them to move their machine guns to places that make it hurt, we have a hard time. Even more so when their artillery is able to usually take out our own a fair bit. Regardless, we tried our best but we are actually pushed out of the Hills, mostly due to the Karikhitan's new guns and how many of them there are. [Nafuna 0/4, Karikhita 4/4]

Battle Report, Swamp/Savannah. Attackers, No one: Once again, its all quiet on the western front, no fighting, just trench digging from the ones in the Savannnah, and setting up wooden fortifications for the people in the swamp. The soldiers are able to relax, drink, and once again talk to each other. There is even a rumor of a Karikhitan and Nafunan going out where the Savannah meets the swamp and talking to each other, but of course, this is complete nonsense, who would want to talk with such barbarians?

Outside world and Internal affairs: Train tracks to all our major cities on the mainland are under construction, and a train system on our island to the east is getting built too. With this, industry is actually growing, and we should have cheep cannons by the end of the year. Meanwhile in other news, the first known use of the word automobile is in an editorial in The New York Times. Anglo-Egyptian Sudan forms. George Dewey becomes first in the US to hold the rank of Admiral of the Navy. Aspirin is patented by Felix Hoffmann at the German company Bayer. Ernest Rutherford publishes his discovery of two different kinds of radiation. And the Second Boer War starts....Meanwhile, on the island of Arnot which the inhabitants claim is a continent, a war between the Königreich des schwarzen and Deyrnas y blaidd wyn starts. No one really cares about this war, but being nearby, both nations haven given an offer to you, your best rifle design for some 'help' in shady business...

Vizier Series 4 Self-Loading Rifle (S4 SLR)

A large leap in regards to infantry weapons, the Vizier himself has come up with this rather ingenious rifle. At first glance appearing to merely be a modern bolt-action rifle, the secret of the S4 SLR is the long-stroke gas operated reloading enabling a soldier to rapidly get multiple shots off in the time it takes the enemy to fire one shot and chamber the next. While plains were made for a detachable box magazine the design features an integrated box magazine, using stripper clips to feed ammo into the rifle's magazine.

The rifle is chambered in a .258 (6.55mm) 'intermediate' round, with a 22.9 inch (581.66mm) barrel, ensuring the rifle has good stopping power and accuracy while being easier to use than a contemporary bolt-action rifle

Carrera Series 1 Model 2 Self Loading Light Battle Rifle (SLLBR) "Vera"
Carrera sees the war and Carrera sees need for new rifle. A modern war is fought in in slow battle lines and standing next to each others, it is fought by rapid movement, close combat and rapid response. For this, Carrera offers new Self Loading Battle Rifle! With precision and firerate, all in compact size!
Chambered in the new .280 Nafuna Battle Round that, while on surface smaller than our existing rounds, offers a good mix of both range and stopping power, yet does not fall into the more of a handgun category either. The weapon itself has 18'' long barrel, but the weapon itself is barely over 30'' long from the longest point in the stock to furthers point in the barrel and weights roughly 9 lb. How is this miracle achieved, you ask? Through the revolutionary design of placing the trigger in front of the firing assembly. This means that the barrel itself is hidden within the weapon itself, instead of petering out from the front of the gun. This also leaves weight closer to the users shoulder, allowing weapon to be quickly brought up and readied.
Ammunition for the weapon is stored in 10 round single-stack box magazine in the stock, which is loaded using either 5 or 10 round stripper clips. This allows soldiers to easily fill the magazines and resume firing without spending ages at reloading the rifle one round at the time, nor having to stop reload at every moment.
Weapon uses a gas piston to operate the bolt. The gasses are caught near the muzzle and used to drive a long-stroke piston, which forces the bolt to move backwards. A guiding rod in the firing assembly turns the bolt, releasing it and catching the round and pulling it alongside the bolt. As the bolt moves, it pushes a side a metal clip. This clip, once the bolt clears the ejection port, is released throwing the spent casing out and clearing the bolt. Bolt carriers to the end of it's travel, before spring pressure forces it back. As it does, the bolt catches a new round from the magazine, pushing it to the firing chamber before guidance rod locks the bolt in place. The weapon is once more ready to fire.
Weapon does not have fire selector beyond having a safety and fires only a single with each trigger pull, with the trigger latching to the hammer before it can strike the firing pin again. The weapon  has a wooden pistol grip, wooden hand grip in the front and wooden stock. All these parts can easily be removed an replaced when needed. Ejection port has a dust cover to prevent dirt and grime from getting inside. The charging handle is attached to the gas piston so that when the handle is pulled, the piston is also pulled thus operating the bolt. Weapon can be carried using straps and has a separate bayonet that can be attached if needed.
Primary sight for the weapon is a detachable optical sight with either 1x, 2x or 4x magnification. However, the sight is not in-built. Instead, it is mounted on a rail and secured with screws, which allows the user to switch sights easily. There are also emergency iron sights, in case the optical sight is damaged. Previously designed 8x magnification sights can also be mounted on this system if needed.

.280 Nafuna Battle Round (.280 NBR)
New cartridge is designed for quick yet precise firing, taking account the new far more mobile nature of the war. Bullet is 0.28'' in diameter, with boat tailed end and is 0.92'' long. Casing is 1.26'' long and 0.52'' in diameter at the base, petering to 0.32' at the next. Bullet velocity is 2,545 ft/s with spitzer (pointed) rounds with 2,680 J of energy behind it. It is a centerfire rimless cartridge.

Blueprint behind this link

Carrera Series 2 Model 1 Personal Machinegun
Twice now, Carrera has given the Royal Nafuni Army troopers a rapid fire solution, changes in warfare demand change in weaponry! Troopers need small, yet powerful weapons that can be fired quickly and often as needed, without stopping for reloads when the enemy is met. Introducing Carrera Series 2 Model 2 Personal Machinegun!
Carrera S2M2 PMG is a weapon that uses a new R.220CM298-RBT-PMGC.  The ammunition is stored in a helical magazine. Interior resembles that of a revolver cylinder, with top half cut off so rounds rest on grooves rather than in chambers. The outers hell has grooved guidance walls built into it, so that when interior rails are turned, the rounds are guided forward. This allows up to 64 rounds to be stored in relatively small package, with the weight spread out and not hampering the aiming. The magazine is attached at the base of the ejection port and forms a hand rest, allowing user to use both hands to aim the weapon.
The barrel extends about 3 inches further than the magazine. The weapon is small and lightweight and has metal stock that folds over the gun, allowing the weapon to be small enough to be carried in a backpack if needed, or from straps if needed. Weapon backsight has two settings, one for 300 feet and other 1300 feet. These can be switched between by simply flipping the sight over, which will switch the sight to other one. Weapon only possess safe mode and full automatic mode. It operates as a open-bolt straight blowback gun, meaning the firing process begins from the bolt being open rather than closed. As the bolt moves forward it strips a cartridge from the magaxine feed, driving it to the firing chamber and firing it. Resulting recoil and gasses cause the bolt to fly back, where if the trigger has been released a latch catches the bolt, preventing further operations. Otherwise, a spring drives the bolt forward, repeating the action. A dustcover acts as a safety, by having a metal piece sticking out of it. When closed over the ejection port, it prevents the bolt from moving forward.

Reseph .220 caliber Carrera M2 99' Rebated Boat-Tail Personal Machine Gun Cartridge
The cartridge is a centerfire cartridge measuring 0.28 inches by 0.98 inches, where the casing weights 15 grains, firing a 0.22 by 0.297 inch 65 grain spitzer round. The casing has a capacity of around 8.7 grains, while 8.15 grains are used to attain a velocity of 622 m/s. Because of it's small size, the cartridge can be packed in larger quantities in smaller magazines - making reloading less of a burden, or making the weapon lighter, while still making it a force to be reckoned with. The stronger base of the cartridge allows it to withstand higher pressures which in turn give a bullet greater velocity and energy while the cartridge case itself contains the propellant. As per Reseph's cartridge doctrine, the cartridge is made with accuracy and stopping power in mind, while also providing excellent performance at medium and short range, allowing for excellent suppressive power, while also allowing soldiers to precisely aim for their enemies when needed. Due to the bullet's muzzle velocity and the system's cyclic rate, a theoretical rate of fire for the weapon is estimated at around 600–725 RPM.

While I'd honestly like to post my own semi-automatic rifle proposal, on a more conventional base and with other goodies to make up for it, I can honestly support the Vera as it'll give us a good base for further work with bullpups I guess. Hopefully it turns out alright and we can spend the revision on our machine gun, getting a good LMG out of it.

Of course, I would've liked a few additions to his design, but I don't want to trigger Mandemon any more than I already have.

Here's some pixel art of the Vera that I made in my spare time:
Spoiler: Vera S1M2 SLLBR (click to show/hide)

Edit: Actually I've changed my mind. I'll post a more conventional battle rifle here just in case anyone wants it. It'll come within the next few hours, along with some more pixel art (because pixel art is fun).

.258 Reseph Akar Self-Loading (Semi-)Automatic Rifle (SLAR) Model 1900
Reseph has once again sought out to present a satisfactory rifle capable of delivering continued fire without reloading. As the name suggests, the rifle is self-loading, where-in it uses the exhaust gas from fired cartridges to operate the bolt, carried by a piston above the barrel. Exhaust gasses are caught near the muzzle and used to drive a long-stroke piston.

The Akar SLAR is chambered in the new R.258A00 SLAR cartridge, which, while lighter than existing rounds, offers a good combination of both range and stopping power. The cartridge come in detachable single-stack box magazines, with an inbuilt stripper clip which slides into the magazine when not in use, allowing soldiers to easily fill the magazines when needed, and come in 20 and 10 round capacities. The weapon is, overall, 40" long - which can be brought down to 30" when the stock is folded - with a 20" long barrel, and weights 9.6 lb when empty and between 10 and 9.79 lb when including it's ammo, depending on which magazine is used (20 or 10 round SLAR respectively).

The ejection port is located on the right-hand side and comes with a dust cover to protect it from outside conditions. A charge handle is present to the front, attached to the gas piston, and enables the user to manually operate the bolt, allowing them to easily clear a stoppage such as a jam, and comes with thumb grooves for extra grip and to ensure releasing it before it has been pulled back all the way is not an issue. A metal foldable stock which collapses to the side is present, with a pad allowing for more recoil absorption and thus control. Auxilliary equipment for the weapon includes a bayonet, bipod mount and a leather sling.

The rifle has a flip-type L-shaped windage-adjustable rear sight with two apertures with settings for 200, 250 and 400 yards, while the front sight is a simple iron sight, though these are to be used in the case of the primary optics breaking or in some other way becoming unusable, or if they are inadequate for the situation. In addition to this, the weapon is capable of mounting optics, which are slid onto a rail and secured with screws, and come in several variants, giving the user a choice between 8×, 4x and 2× magnification, allowing it to operate anywhere between short and long range. The weapon also features a rotating fire selector which is located on the right side of the receiver and has 3 modes of fire, denoted by "S" for safe, where a latch stops the trigger from moving the hammer, "1" for semi-automatic fire, where the latch catches onto the bolt after every shot and "C" for continuous (or conned, since it didn't really do anything) fire, though this form of fire just continues semi-automatic mode, as Reseph feared it's inclusion would raise the difficulty of the design given the timeframe he had to make it, and because what he did try made the weapon obscenely heavy. While not trully continuous, the psychological effect of flipping a switch telling you you're firing automatic fire would probably help, he guessed.

While I can support the bullpup if the votes go a particular way, I'd like to provide a more conventional rifle while allowing for an easy refit to an automatic rifle in later turns, or this turn if we want an LMG out of it.

Edit 2: Fixed the cartridge to account for a slip-up on my part. Pixel art's above.
Edit 3: Made the rifle more oriented towards general infantry combat, but a future sniper revision is possible if needed.

Making pixel art now.

Very Hard: 2
Carrera 'Vera' Series 1 Model 2 Self Loading Light Battle Rifle:
The Vera is a excellent example of why Reseph should be the one designing rifles, and Carrera should stick to machine guns. Its also a great example of why they should never be allowed to argue with each other, as that happened every single day before the design was chosen and even after. The many and we mean many prototypes we have made have always had some sort of flaw that wouldn't be so much of a flaw if it was a machine gun. Things like, it weighing a lot more then any normal rifle should, the gun being inaccurate, the gun barrel actually needing to be replaced, and sometimes jamming. Of course, those where the prototypes, currently, it is actually about 20 pounds, very large and unwieldy, not very accurate, and jams in a way that makes it change from a rifle to a club unless you disassemble the box magazine and the firing mechanism. Now, that's not to say that the design and the idea of a semi automatic rifle shows promise but in its current state, its more or less useless. Costs 1 ore

It is now the Revision Phase, The Pharaoh hopes to avoid another Project Hippo in terms of how long it takes for the design to come out to our soldiers...
