Khenthap 6’’ cannon simplification

While the auto loading system was revolutionary, it was clearly also beyond our abilities right now.  To salvage the project a manual breech loader replaces the automatic piston one to load the prepacked shells.  This should still drastically increase our range, damage potential and firing speed without risking another total failure or too expensive to use system.

Why are you removing something that was never part of the design? It's ejection system, not reloading system. Also, said ejection system is not even mentioned in the design, so it most likely isn't even there, so this simplification process basically tries to remove something that isn't there, while not fixing the actual problems (Shells not firing properly and air leakage), meaning the that the gun remains as problematic as it is.

Sorry, it is an ejection system, and the ejection system is very specifically in there.  It has air escape constantly so it stops working after a use and the tube then deforms.

Anyway, if you don't remove the auto ejection it will remain very complex and very expensive even if you get it functioning.

Air escape is part of recoil reduction, those tubes exist to handle recoil. Not to eject the shell.

Normal: 1
Djer 6’’ cannon revision:
So...we renamed the cannon and got to work fixing it...and uh...as it turns out, its quite hard to make shells that are the right size and make the many times we tried to fix the tubing either lead to the same result, or it breaking altogether. The extra things we where told to do, the armour pearcing and other improvements...well...we kinda couldn't do that seeing how it took so long trying to fix the thing. But we can assure you that with all this time wasted spent working, we should be able to fix it with ease next year...we hope.

It is now the Battle phase, The Pharaoh, Neferu, is wondering if our current design should be kept secret for now, seeing how its a bit...broken.

No sense in letting them hold the aluminium deposits, especially since they're far off from designing a plane.

Battle Report 7, 1896
As one can tell, Project Hippo is not exactly a resounding success yet and needs more time before we can get it fully operational. However so far we have learned quite a bit and will be able to work on it a bit more with hopefully more progress then we have made this year.

Meanwhile, our enemy has worked on a cannon called the BL-8cm L32 model 96, which is better then ours, but smaller then their last cannon. From what we can tell, it has smokeless powder and is much faster to reload then our own cannon. Other then that, they made the Burgud Infantry Rifle which seems to have replaced their old rifle, can be used on horse back, and is quite fast firing and appears to fire multiple shots before reloading.

Battle Report, Naval Combat: Unfortunately, our enemy's Yalagdashgui ships are now in larger numbers then they where last year. Fortunately we are able to see them before they can see us due to the smoke on the horizon being a sign they are there, so we can avoid them for the most part. However, the occasional ship ends up getting caught between them and sunk or heavily damaged. Although we can avoid most conflicts, we still cant stop them from at the very least forcing us to delay our deliveries and as such we are quite certain that the Karikhitans have managed, with their numerous Yalagdashgui's, to take an advantage, although not a major one.

Battle Report, Ruins. Attackers, Nafuna, Karikhita: The battle in the ruins changes a bit, no longer can our skirmishers just wait for the enemy to fire and reveal their position through smoke and instead have to look a bit more then they use to. Of course, we still are able to kill a decent amount of them, but it isn't the kind of numbers we had before. We also lose a few of them in a few locations, and a lot of them in one location, presumably due to one of the Kari's soldiers. At close range, we still have an advantage, but slightly less of one then before due to the enemy's rife now being a bit quicker, although we still have an advantage as they have to use the bolt after every shot still, but its effects are still noticeable as just pulling the bolt is much quicker then reloading the whole thing. After a long amount of fighting, we are barely prevented to push foreword and retake some of our lands. [Nafuna 2, Karikhita 2]

Battle Report, Hill's/Village. Attackers, Nafuna, Karikhita: The hills are a hilly land with many valley's and, well, hills. There are few tree's and the fighting mostly happens at medium and short ranges, with long range being a bit rare outside of artillery anyway. Our time here is...hard to say the least. We are hit hard by the enemies new rifle and the enemies new cannon. They are able to use their cannon at long range to great effect against our own and just as accurate if not more so, although it could be worse, their shells could explode like ours, which theirs don't. Regardless, their rifle does well at medium range, better then ours anyway due to its fire rate and the fact our rifles have to be reloaded after every shot and cant really be used at the longest range. In fact, the Karikhitans do a good job pushing us back in a few locations, although luckily Neith's hunters stopped an advance all by their selves, using some bushes for cover. Although the enemy managed to get close and even see one of the hunters and wound them, but he survived and the Karikhitan force was drove back after a few of our soldiers tricked them that they where leading them into a trap. At the end of all the fighting, we find we aren't pushed back, but we didn't gain any ground either. [Nafuna 0, Karikhita 4]

Battle Report, Swamp/Savannah. No attackers: For once, a single front in the war goes quiet. Soldiers merely standing on guard watching the swamps carefully for any Karikhitan's moving in but none come. People are able to relax, rest, and talk to each other here instead of being forced to fight and die for the Pharaoh. The soldiers are able to set up some defenses and play some board games like Senet. Naturally, people assigned to the front for the time being are quite happy to sit there in the Savannah and more or less just relax like at home.

Outside world and Internal affairs: Nothing much happens to us directly. A few priests preaching about something called Catholicism came over and one or two of them caused a bit of trouble, claiming great plagues like that which happened to our ancestors would come down upon us if we didn't repent, despite the fact we don't have any records of such things. Naturally, they where kicked out of the country, but a few others who where reasonable where allowed to stay, although most people find them annoying. In more important news, talks with Brittan for more machinery don't go too well, as they are too focused in Africa at the moment to give us much attention. In other news however,  "Die Presse" newspaper in Germany publicly announces Wilhelm Röntgen's discovery of X-rays and their potential for new methods of medical diagnoses in a front-page article. British troops occupy Kumasi, West Africa. Henri Becquerel discovers radioactivity. Samuel Pierpont Langley flies his unpiloted Number 5 aircraft using a catapult launch from a boat on the Potomac River, USA. The aircraft travels almost 3/4 of a mile, ten times further than any previous heavier-than-air flying machine. A mass panic on Khodynka Field, Moscow, during the festivities of the coronation of Russian Tsar Nicholas II, results in the deaths of 1,389 people. The Sanriku earthquake resulted in two tsunamis and kills about 22 thousand people, becoming one of the most destructive seismic events in Japanese history. And Britain defeated Zanzibar in a 38-minute war, the shortest war in recorded history.

Do we want to spend another full design on the cannon, or just a revision? We might want to consider something else for the design. Here is a random idea for a machinegun, using out existing tech and revolver cannon idea. It can quite easily be scaled into an auto-cannon once we got strong enough guns. And who said they revolvers don't lead to anything?

Carrera Series 3 Model 2 Rapid Repeater Revolver (Machinerevolver)
How do soldiers feel like bullets flying towards them? Not very well. How do they react when lots of bullets are flying towards them? They keep their heads down. Of course, problem we have these days is that our troops can not maintain good enough rate of fire to force enemy to keep their head down, which gives our enemy a chance to shoot back. Well no more, for Carrera Firearms offers a solution: more bullets.
New Series 3 machinerevolver offer a rate of fire that is sure to keep enemy’s head down. Utilizing our existing rifle rounds, Series 3 uses our skills of both bolt action and revolver. It has 5 round cylinder and is fed by a loose belt holding cartridges from the side. When firing, the recoil gasses are directed to the back of weapon, causing four things to happen: Forst is that the chambering to advance to next round. While moving, an ejector pulls out the spent cartridge, ejecting it. On the other side, a round is stripped off from the belt and half fed into the chamber, with rest of the chambering carried out on when the round moves to ready-to-fire position.
The barrel is air cooled, with simple screw-on feature to allow rapid replacement. The barrel has shroud around it to allow barrel to be operated even when hot. It also comes with tripod to stabilize and mount the weapon.

More traditional piece:

Carrera Series 3 Model 1  Rapid Repeater Rifle(Machinegun)
How do soldiers feel like bullets flying towards them? Not very well. How do they react when lots of bullets are flying towards them? They keep their heads down. Of course, problem we have these days is that our troops can not maintain good enough rate of fire to force enemy to keep their head down, which gives our enemy a chance to shoot back. Well no more, for Carrera Firearms offers a solution: more bullets.
New Series 3 machineguns offer a rate of fire that is sure to keep enemy’s head down. Utilizing our existing rifle rounds, Series 3 has perfected the bolt action used in our rifles. The bolt now rests on a groove. When the bolt moves along this groove, it mimics the action of operating the bolt. Where does the action to move the bolt comes from? From the cartridge, of course! By using the recoil, firing the weapon unlocks the bolt, allowing it to slide back from the recoil. This allows the spend casing to be extracted and ejected, followed by new round being inserted. A spring pushes the bolt back to its firing position, locking it until the next shot. As long as the trigger is held down, the weapon will continue repeating the process until it runs out of ammo.
Ammunition is fed through use of a belt. Taking cues from the Carrera Series 1 Model 1 rifle, each time bolt slides back it also moves the belt, allowing a new cartridge to be stripped off from it. The barrel is oil cooled. It also comes with tripod to stabilize and mount the weapon.

Of course, here is proposition for a hand grenade too:

Sekhet Hand Grenade
Sekhet hand grenade is an explosive device designed to be easily thrown and used. It resembles a small club, with explosives packed on a cylinder on top, followed by a hollow wooden handle. Inside this handle, there is a fuze that lasts 3 to 5 seconds. The cylinder itself is also lined with indented sheet, that breaks apart and creates fragments wherever it exploders. In order to arm the grenade, user unscrews the bottom of the handle. This releases a small wire. User pulls this wire, which starts the fuze and then throws it.
