Battle Report 1, 1890This year, we have designed with the clear help of Thoth the
Pharoah Narmer 6-Pound Cannon, the first step to having a modernish army and navy, the wonderful cannon is able to hurl a ball of lead or a bunch of scrap our enemies and is surprisingly simple to be made, for a cannon anyway. We are quite sure that the invaders are going to have an unplesent surprise, especially with the
Toth mk.1 Matchlock, especially with how they managed to not only make the design simpler and figure out how it works, but also made ring bayonets to make them no longer fancy clubs should the wick go out and instead make them fancy spears! Although, they could be used as both.
From reports of the fighting from the front line however have shown that the Karikhitans have made some kind of Armour, seeing how the outfits they wear where different, and how they seemed to be able to take a few arrows before going down. Further investigation reveals that the Karikhitans have made something they call
Bear armour to protect them from arrows and swords, although, bullets from our Toth mk.1's seem to put them down like anything else. Much much more worrying however, is we have reports of ships called
Water Wolf's, these small ships usually contain 30 Karikhitans, and they tend to either try burning our ships with fire arrows or attempt to board us.
Battle report, Naval combat: Naval combat is, one sided to say the least, many of our river boats are sunk or captured, and their is little if anything our people on board can do to fight against the savages. Even trying to run away from them, they just manage to catch up or stay on the poor ships. The only time one of the ships managed to actually fight back was when one of the crew hauled a Narmer 6 pounder on the deck and fired it at the attacking Water Wolf and scaring it off. Regardless, despite the best efforts of our river boat crews, there is a clear
Karikhita Naval Dominance, and by extension, our ships transport abilities have been cut in half.
Battle Report, Island Mountain combat. Attacker's, Karikhita, Nafuna: The mountains on the large island to the east are dangerous and unstable, such so that the Narmer cannot get up or provide support, nor can any of our chariots. However, luckily, this means our enemy cant use their horses without putting themselves at major risk. Under normal situations, we most likely would win such a fight any time it didn't rain due to our muskets, however, there is two problems we find here, one, our enemy has muskets too, abet in less number, and two, our troops are unable to be resupplied much due to the naval situation, and that means that we cant deliver the reinforcements or supplies and weapons to actually win the fight. The few rare times when a ship makes it unmolested, the soldiers, desperate get their hands on whatever they can before the others, don't have enough to be able to fight our enemy properly. This, combined with the fact our enemy seems to take more arrows before they die thanks to their new bear armour, means that
despite our best efforts to gain ground, we lose it instead. Karikhita gains ground: [Nafuna 1/4, Karikhita 3/4]Battle Report, Villages, Attacker Nafuna: The villages, once a place where we tried to expand to get to the north hoping one day that some of the small towns would become cities is as it was many years before, a set of small towns and villages, unable to grow due to the constant attacks and occupation of the Karikhita invaders. Thankfully, our new weapons have changed these lands from a place where we fear to fight the Karikhita's to a place where they fear us. Our armoured chariots are used as scouts and as distractions. While our archers used to fight the horse mounted threat and our shield equipped melee troops mostly stay with the Narmer's to protect them, going so far as to use their shields and their bodies to try and protect the crew manning the cannon so they may continue to use it. The cannons are used to great effect early on cutting down any attempted melee charges, and are decent at fighting against any group of Karikhita horse archers. Our Toth mk.1 matchlock men are also quite effective against the charges, usually running up after the cannon fires to fire their own shot before bracing themselves for the horses incoming. Doing this dangerous, but the cannons are to be protected at all costs. Our enemy's armour proves annoying here, as our archers have to fire more arrows just to take down a single target, although, or Toth equipped soldiers help by just shooting the horse, which, if it hits and kills the animal, tends to kill the rider too. Regardless, although we take some loses,
we make ground retaking our land [Nafuna 3/4, Karikhita 1/4]Battle Report, Swamp, Attacker Karikhita The swampland is that, a water and mud filled land that is honestly quite miserable. No one wants to be here really, both due to the mud making horses and transport out of the land difficult, along with the simple fact that their are plenty of mosquitoes here. Still, its wet, which proves to make things...complicated when it comes to our matchlocks and the mud makes the cannons unable to be used here outside of firing into the swamp from the outside, which are rare incidents. Despite having an advantage in terms of the amount of rifles we have, they are found to be a bit unreliable, too unreliable to make much of an impact anyway. Most fighting currently is either an skirmish between bowmen, which Karikhita usually wins due to their armour, or a melee, which Karikhita doesn't win as often, but tends to last slightly longer thanks to their armour. It is extremely difficult for our enemy to advance, but, they do, barely, but they do. As such,
we lose ground. [Nafuna 1/4, Karikhita 3/4]Outside world: Both us and Karikhita send out ships to try and contact the other nations of the outside world, all but one of our ships are lost at sea, and the one that came back came with news that they where successful. A few months later, a ship flying the union jack came and, we have properly made contact with the outside world, and, realized how we where scammed and how much much more we need to advance, we need to 'industrialize'. Preparations and the ground work to do so are starting this year, although, a few people have expressed concerns as to how they would be able to keep the quality of their craft. In true outside world news, however, Kaiser Wilhelm II fired the chancellor Otto von Bismarck. The Stadsschouwburg burned down. The first-ever official cricket County Championship match begins. And King William III of the Netherlands died without a male heir and a special law passed to allow his daughter Princess Wilhelmina to inherit.
Khopesh, A classic short sword design we have not forgotten even after all these years, the major difference between it and the original is the use of steel instead of iron or bronze and it is much sharper then what we had before. Costs 1 Ore-Cheep
Composite Bow, A favorite of both our own troops and our enemy, it is a simple bow that is able to pack much more of a punch then a self bow, it comes with a quiver. Costs 1 Wood -Cheap
Shield, A simple shield using wood and covered with leather that is able to protect the user against blows by ground troops or protect against arrows. Costs 1 Wood -Cheap
Armored Chariot, Unlike our foe, we do not ride atop horses in battle, instead, we use chariots. These particular chariots are armored and quite sturdy so they wont have an unlikely chance of being set on fire. It is only used by skilled archers, as we have limited numbers of them due to the required skill needed to make them. Costs 2 Wood, 1 Ore -Complex, Expensive
Toth Mk.1 Matchlock Rifle, A simple mussel loaded rifle with a matchlock system where a wick is used to ignite the gunpowder in the pan. The match needs to remain lit making it prone to go out in windy situations, making it unusable by our chariots, and in rain or mist its more or less a fancy club or spear. The glow of the match burning also can give away the gunners position in the dark. Its been thoroughly studied and designs for our smiths have been made, along with a bayonet for melee combat and calvery. Costs 1 Wood 1 Ore -Complex, Expensive
Pharaoh Narmer 6-pound Cannon, A bronze cannon that is basically an up sized version of the gun we where given. It is able to fire a lead ball or a set of metal parts in a scatter shot. It is relatively light for a cannon and is quite reliable. It is transported using a chariot, and ammo and powder for the cannon is usually carried in another chariot, however, both chariots are larger then normal, and said difference can be noticed by the enemy. Thanks to our designs, skilled smiths can make it without too much trouble. Costs 3 ore and 2 wood -Complex, Expensive.
Mongol Sabre, A old sword design that has served us well even after all these years, It can be used on horseback just as well as it can be used on foot. Costs 1 Ore -Cheap
Composite Bow, A favorite of both our own troops and our enemy, it is a simple bow that is able to pack much more of a punch then a self bow, it comes a quiver. Costs 1 Wood -Cheap
Halberds, A two-sided blade mounted on a pole that is 2 meters tall, it can be used by particularly strong individuals on horseback but the average person can only use it on foot, it would be very good against our enemy's chariots, if only they actually used them for melee, still, good for melee and charges, although it is time consuming to make. 2 Ore -Complex, Expensive
Matchlock Rifle, A simple mussel loaded rifle with a matchlock system where a wick is used to ignite the gunpowder in the pan. Its very difficult to make ourselves, and the match needs to remain lit making it prone to go out in windy situations, sadly making it unusable by our horse riders, and in rain or mist its more or less a fancy club. The glow of the match burning also can give away the gunners position in the dark. Costs 1 Wood, 1 Ore -Very Complex Very Expensive
Water Wolf, The Water Wolf is a sloop with a single deck and the room for 30 other troops, and sadly no horses. The ship can be equipped with either archers who attempt to sink ships with arrows set on fire, or boarders, who attempt to capture ships. It is quite fast with its two sails and has oars in the need to sail into the wind, or if the wind dies down. The ship design is simple, and the ship writes can make it without any issues. Costs 2 wood, 1 ore. -Cheap
Bear Armour, Sadly, not made out of bear leather, Bear armour is simple but effective cloth and leather armour able to stop arrows from killing at medium and long range, however, it doesn't stop musket shots at anything short of extreme range, at which point, you have to be lucky, which considering how accurate a musket is at that range, means you probably aren't. The arms aren't armored for flexibility, and it doesn't include a helm, so shots to the head or arms will be more effective then the chest. -Cheep
It is now the design phase, stop the barbarians.
