Dwarven ethics
« on: October 28, 2017, 12:07:32 am »

I have a fortress I'm playing of dwarves from a nearly fallen empire. I have 58 of the 70ish dwarven citizens that were left.

Many of the dwarves were apparently hiding out in human civs, as "apprentices", and the handful of sites their civ had also had sizable human populations. It seems most of my dwarves worship a human god of death and murder, known as Gamo Blackmatch.

I've noticed in the descriptions that my dwarves values seem abnormal, my question is are my dwarves more homicidal than normal? Is this something to be worried about?

Values are usually cosmetic. For now.

Honestly that sounds like a great story in the making. Far from being worried, I'd keep playing the fortress and see what happens. :P

It's actually pretty terrifying to think about having all of your fat melt off into grease because you started sweating too much.

Is... Is that even possible? *Recalls stories of dwarven mothers using their children as living shields as they pummel goblins into a pulp**Shudders*

The sight of them "contemplating murder" is unsettling.

The sight of them "contemplating murder" is unsettling.

I have the same every time the elven caravan arrives.

But on a serious note I suspect they are just doing the generic activity for the library based on the "sphere" their culture is based on (if I remember correctly a sphere is basicly a collection of concepts loosly banded together, like nature, death, war and so on so if the sphere that influences the civ the most is War they will "Contemplate Military Ethics")..

On the other hand this is awesome story wise, this could be great for some sort of community fort. One last refuge of a beaten dwarven civilization, nihilistic in their view of the world, bitter towards their neighbors for their crime of simply surviving when they could not. The weakening flame of a candle, surely to be snuffed out as soon as the wind picks up.

Does it affect your dwarves anger prospensity? If so any dwarf that goes insane is more likely to go berserk.

The sight of them "contemplating murder" is unsettling.

If this is in a temple, they just worship a god/dess that has murder as one of their spheres. Not too much cause for excitement, though it's likely you have a Tower or three somewhere near the home civ.

Like being greeted in adventure mode with "Have you considered suicide?"

Yes. Do recall - it's almost always the goblins in taverns who pick fights.

I don't know about the values of human civ. They might be. They might also not be - post a description of such humanized dwarf, OP?

I'm not sure really how different they are. I do have a few that value nature though.
