Is the dwarf alive.

In the units list is the dwarf listed as hostile, visitor, or part of your fort.

Was the dwarf from your fort or a visitor.

Did he die while transformed or while dwarfified.

Has the wherelemur been haunting your or was this out of the blue.

What did the dwarf do upon relififying.

Are you using any mods?

Not using any mods.

She was bitten in a Werelemur attack and I had her locked in my swimming pool.
When she transformed during the next full moon, she had an unfortunate "accident" with magma.
The thing is, she had a coffin assigned to her, even though there was no body left.

So I thought, that she won't come back to haunt me and promptly forgot about her.

She had not been haunting me, so this came out of the blue. She was back in the swimming pool and her icon was that of an undead, but she didn't move at all.
Didn't check the unit list, but engraving and placing a memorial slab for her made her disappear.

Coffins only lay citizens to rest if their body is stored in it (there are some rules about that: either sufficiently much of the citizen or at least one of some critical parts, I'm not sure). If the body is not recoverable you need to slab them (as you did).

I assume you don't have a save from in between the dorf was killed and the slab was installed (for those who'd like to investigate the ghost)?

I think that any ghost of a were-beast will transform on a full moon, this has happened before with a bunch of people.

Yeah there were no body parts left, magma took care of that.
But because she still got a coffin, I thought she wouldn't come back to haunt me.

I actually do have a save before I put down a slab, after all it was way over an year after her death, before she came back as a wereghost.
Unfortunately she is not yet haunting me in that save, I didn't save during that time and before slabbing her.
Want me to upload the save?

Please do. If she appeared in your main game she ought to appear in the save. It might not provide ground breaking new insights looking at it, but at least it's interesting for people who haven't seen it before.

Here's the save. It's about 10 days before she appeared originally.

I've had ghosts die of thirst before :'(  They can be weird sometimes.

Thanks for the save.

Edit: I was barking under the wrong tree, so I've removed the original "conclusions".

- There's a skeleton from the original were lemur sitting in the corpse/refuse stockpile showing the undead symbol, but it doesn't scare anyone (more than any other corpse of a sapient).
- The killed dorf is buried and has a reference to a body part, but that part doesn't exist in the stocks menu, so it's presumably destroyed by magma.
- I haven't seen any ghost despite waiting for over 3 months, checking the units screens from time to time to find one. It may be it takes longer for the ghost to start its hauning.

The coffin is probably a glitch, if you look at the coffin does it say task? If so that means they tried to get her body before it melted (takes a few seconds for a body to actually melt in magma) also I think for it to count as buried the part of the body listed as corpse has to be buried. Basically, you can bury a arm. But there's no use in doing that. Also I dont know if you can actually bury a were creature because it's not part of your civ until they turn back.

There's a coffin assigned to the killed character "This is the resting place...". There is no visible task assigned to it, nor is the body available (anymore).
The were skeleton that IS available is the one of the attacker, which doesn't belong to any civ. DFHacking a coffin to hold it didn't generate any hauling task for that skeleton.

Yeah the body in the stockpile is the original attacker, the bitten dwarf didn't leave a corpse or any body parts, magma took care of that.
I didn't have any coffins at the time the dwarf died, and when I finally started making them, the first I put down was assigned to her, even though there was nothing left of her.

She died well over an year ago and didn't start haunting in all that time. In the original save the first incling was the transformation message and it completely suprised me.

It took a very long time before I found the ghost (3/4 year), and I followed it around over the next full moon, with no indications of any transformations. It seems things played out differently along the main path. Ah well.
