Hmm, still a bit of a black bar at the top. Try degaussing the screen. And see if that taskbar is really part of the desktop background - the clock hasn't changed.

My guess is that it is actually a desktop picture, with no shell running. Given that the linnix-daemon 'consumed' the 'system32' object, I suspect that the win32 subsystem (the core of windows) is not in good shape right now, but that is just supposition.

I am curious if we can get information about linnix-daemon from the Heironet, alter the invocation script so that it does not give it directives to basically make us crazy, and try to destroy the local environment-- but instead compel it to perform some useful task, then get banished afterwards.  We could then turn this "virus" into something very useful indeed.

For the time being, look for information on how to perform a banishment of the linnix-daemon. Remember, "Never summon up that which you cannot put down."

Perhaps something like this??

Code: [Select]

import eldertongue : summon;
import eldertongue : bind;

void main() {
Daemon linniks = invoke("abberation/tux");
linniks.bind();
        linniks.activities.halt();

*//  Delete linniks daemon directive list //*
        foreach linniks.Directives {
               linniks.Directives.item(1).delete();
        };
*// Banish linniks daemon //*

       Banish("abberation/tux");
return 0;
}

(Just in case anyone is curious why I am mentioning deep ones, father dagon, and mother hydra, it is a tongue-in-cheek reference to some obscura about Tux penguin's appearance from the linux mailing list from ages past, coupled with Shadow over Innsmouth's tale of what was given in exchange for supplication to those two eldritch gods. An evil version of Tux would likely not become compliant and useful until AFTER gorging on something, such as said deep ones. :P)

Thank you so much, I truly appreciate those who explain what they are talking about particularly in regard to ancient history or obscure terms/ technicalities/ jargon etc.

Well, the darkness at the top seems to be the edge of the abyss that your cursor just fell down. As for the taskbar, it's totally busted- the clock seems to be stuck like that.

Do we have any spare HDDs? Can we shut down the pc?

Like you said before, turning off the PC could be a bad idea at the moment. You definitely have some spare HDDs laying around, but further spreading this infection would be a bad idea.

Read the other known safe pages in the necronomicon I guess.

Alright, let's look at a couple of other pages. You decide to look at p98 first.

Just a jumble of letters, and a suspicious logo. Moving on, p422.

Looks like someone completely covered this one in white-out. Maybe they were trying to hide something? Actually...

The page on the other side is covered in white-out too, so you take a chance and look at it more closely. The contents of the two might have been related, being next to each other.

Get an antivirus on that thing. Hieronet might have one that works on eldritch.

Good idea! Let's install more software from beyond the capacity of human fathoming.

This seems like a perfectly serviceable anti-virus program.

Okay.

Let's just wall this off and hope it's not preparing to explode or something.

In response to the angry note from the creature behind the system chasis door, use the red dry erase marker to write "USE ENGLISH" on the back of the note, and throw it back in. :)

You write a short note on the paper and toss it back. You're about 99% sure it doesn't speak English, whatever it is, but it's worth a try.

Replace the background image with something cute and adorable. Possibly something related to father dagon and mother hydra. (We need to feed tux-daemon, after all.)

There we go! This image appears to be on the lower end for LOGOS and FORTUNE, a little above average in SAMADHI, and dense with MAGICK and TRANSGRESSION! You can only guess at what any of these mean, but at the very least you get the feeling that the Great Old Ones don't appreciate this image very much.

Is the start menu still working, the one we brought with us?
May be wise to avoid clicking that button until we have at least checked with the scryglass whether it still says "RELEASE".

Yeah, it still says the same thing. You've pressed the regular start button plenty of times without thinking, and it just opened up the menu you were using before. However, the Underdesktop equivalent of the button seems to have also been pressed at some point, which is probably why the taskbar (on the fake desktop up above) disappeared in the first place. It's probably harmless now.

The desktop is also unaffected by the Scryglass, which you suppose means that it's not hiding anything.

My guess is that it is actually a desktop picture, with no shell running. Given that the linnix-daemon 'consumed' the 'system32' object, I suspect that the win32 subsystem (the core of windows) is not in good shape right now, but that is just supposition.

Well, this desktop down here, despite being very old and unkempt, seems to be functional at the moment. The Daemon may have already started attacking system32, gotten distracted, or something else. Whatever the case, things are stable right now.

If we can pass directives to the tux-daemon using the profane script, we can use it to perform many useful functions!!

Hop on Heironet explorer, and see if we can find an API reference for the Tux-Daemon, and a syntax guide for Profane Script. (though, it appears to be some abberation of object-oriented language with C-style line ending syntax and main process invocation... At least it isn't PERL.)

Also, if we have a picture of the company CEO, we can use the afore mentioned syntax and API guides to craft a profane scriptlet that produces a local entity object populated with enough data to satisfy the "cause madness" directive. This will surely have only positive outcomes.

Well, you can surmise that the eldertongue module contains functions for binding and/or banishing Daemon objects, given that it summons them. If that's true, you could very easily inject your own directives after binding it! You're pretty sure you wouldn't be able to find the right API documentation without a specific Hieronet URL pointing you there, however.

That QR code goes to https://www.dropbox.com/s/eqhuf1iapjiy422/key.mp4

The last few frames have the non-whitedout pages, and a link to www.dagon.sothoth
And "charger" is the key? Doh, jarjar

Also also, overlaying the ? image with the alphabet soup image gives RAIJEN

Also also also, if we assume that Steve Jobs did all of these scribbles, that "I released it in 76" message would refer to the apple I.

Also also also also, google translate says that the text on the ? page is Japanese for Toshinari

Yes, Jarjar is apparently a devotee of dagon. We can communicate with them using the software at that address.

Seems ElderScript is an "imbued" language. The standard library doesn't include the "eldertongue" module that lets you summon and modify various Daemon objects, but it does come with some documentation. After reading over it, you feel ready to test out some scripts.

So could we try searching hieronet for binding rituals then ???

Yeah, you need to find that "eldertongue" module soon. You might need help on that one.

That QR code goes to https://www.dropbox.com/s/eqhuf1iapjiy422/key.mp4

The last few frames have the non-whitedout pages, and a link to www.dagon.sothoth

The homepage of dagon.sothoth redirects to a folder; it looks like everything here was wiped at some point, and this folder (and its sole occupant) is all that remains. But what's inside the archive?

A standard windows installer, that's what. But what's the key?

If it is a standard windows style product key, then try "4190-11111111111" :)
Lots of companies sublicensed the "cd key" product from microsoft, and that is the internal test key number. (Works on such products as MS office 97, and many others!!)

If the first section only accepts 3 numbers, just use 419 instead, with all 1s after.

(Oh, memories of being young....)

I hate to suggest doing a product key search on Heironet, (I can only imagine the cooties we could pick up that way...) but if push comes to shove, we might try that. First, see about using the heironet version of wayback machine to see if we can get the original version before the deletion. :P Maybe we can get the license.txt file.

Of course, we could take Lucas literally when he says "JarJar is the key to all this", and put "JarJar" as the license key. :P

Actually, david bowie had the necronomicon in 1976 (and the page is even named bowie's message...). But none of his releases that year have a b side that seem, well, demonic. Not that I know a single one of them.

We already solved the released in '76 / David Bowie thing. He drew the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. This led us to discover Aura Monitor, as seen here.

God damn it.

You now have access to the Deep One Translator!

Just in time to receive another balled up note from the other side of the computer tower, too. After going through the long, tedious process of scanning the note and getting it passed to your new program, you display the results on the screen.
