We should be able to get more than just metal from asteroids... but yeah, okay, I expected this would happen.

Day 6: You set a course for the nearby distress signal. It takes you a bit to angle the engines right so that you're on your way, but you eventually manage to get it pointed in the right direction. You used your PDA to line it up, so you should be almost perfectly on target.

You spend the rest of the morning building a biomass recycler. Since it came in two flavors, and you've been eating bland MREs for days, you choose the spicy option. This is a much more efficient, if not smellier option for dealing with your waste. Before you just had a corner, which was the worst option, then you tossed it out the airlock. Now your waste will be recycled into spicy MREs. You think that you could modify this device to recycle water, but you aren't producing enough waste to get food AND water out of the process. You think its a good enough idea that you put a switch on the device so you can switch between the two.

You spend your evening researching things. You wonder what species you are, but your PDA doesn't seem to have any information on that sort of thing. It seems mostly limited to mechanical devices as far as its data stores go. Speaking of which, you're noticing that some datastores are corrupted, but you don't think that there were any corrupted datastores there a few days ago. You gather the carbon coming out of the machine, and wonder where all the 02 went. Probably either into this waste or was just destroyed in the process. You look up a weapon schematic next, and find a small pistol. It requires 15 metal to manufacture and 1 metal for each bullet. It has a damage rating of 2.

Research:
possibility of using this probably-dioxane-tetraketone (I mean you wouldn't just casually violate the law of conservation of energy knowing the implications, right?) as more input for the food recycler;
construction of solar sails, which should make an effective very-low-strength but zero-electricity-cost form of propulsion good enough for minor steering;
construction of body armour suitable for your body type.

Build external sensors and look for any signs of life, other than the distress signal.
Scavenge any food, water, schematics, devices, anything useful from the ship emitting the distress signal.
If the sensors detect any signs of life, head toward them; otherwise, head toward the asteroid.

Also, it's not possible for the oxygen to just be destroyed, unless there's a nuclear reactor tucked in there somewhere (and even then it wouldn't be destroyed, it would just be converted into another element(s).) Thus we must conclude that the excess oxygen went into the gunk.

EDIT: Ninja'd!

EDIT 2: Solar sails only work if they're very, very large (like a kilometer in diameter). Otherwise normal spacecraft could be blown right out of the solar system. Thus, we probably won't be able to construct one at this point in time.

Strictly speaking, we might not be operating on standard Earth physics, but I doubt Roboson is prepared to deal with the implications (you can probably tell how much I'd abuse that).

Also, apologia, but -1 to pretty much all of that until after we make it where we're going and know what we have to deal with there, since it probably won't be that simple. However, +1 to building external sensors but use them to scan our destination thoroughly first. We're also going to have to seriously consider breaking down that stasis pod.

How about we make a conditional action, since we're running dangerously low on supplies and we should try to accomplish what we want to do in the fewest possible number of turns.

If there are no signs of life aboard the ship, loot it. If there is, politely ask for some food. Run away at the first sign of conflict.

Day 7: You examine the waste product of the carbon scrubber, but without a microscope its hard to tell exactly what it is, and the schematic just keeps talking about how somethings are just game things and not representative of actual reality. Must be the corrupted data or something, so you decide to drop the issue for now. You consider dropping it into your waste recycler, but you don't know how well that will go, the recycler is meant to break down excrement, not industrial waste.

You spend the rest of the morning and midday building some external sensors to mount on the exterior of your ship. It takes a fair bit of time to get them constructed and mounted, but its worth it by the time you're done. You manage to get a better location on the distress signal, and its actually closer than you thought! Good thing, you could have rammed right into wherever it was coming from if you went to sleep. You scan the construct upon approach and discover its a fairly large ship. No life signs, and only some heat and power signs in some sections of the ship. Its unlikely the ship was fully automated, so in mostlihood the crew is dead or in stasis.

You have a few hours before you'll need to sleep, so you go ahead and board the ship. You go in through the docking port, lacking a proper docking mechanism, you tether your ship to the bigger ship. You go inside to the central area and find the source of the issue. There's a large section of the hull missing! Noting the lack of burn damage and the way that the metal is bent, you would guess meteor strike, but a directional explosion isn't totally off the table. There's a large pile of debris in the room, chunks of metal and other assorted ship bits that appear to have collapsed as a result of the explosion. Though, the fact that its in one area makes you think that, perhaps, someone else has been here. A shiver runs down your spine as you think that perhaps you aren't alone. Looking around the room, waiting for something to jump out at you, you notice several screens along one wall, their undamaged, but inoperable due to lack of power. There are also several arrows pointing to different sections of the ship. But you have no idea which would be the best option to explore first. After this bout of exploration, you return to your ship to sleep and contemplate tomorrow's plan of action.
