I assume the reason so many people work with generic archipelago worlds is because of how easy it, and how they can give everyone their own playpen to mess around with. No having to worry about one player trying to turn the continent into a rainforest while the other tries to turn it into a wasteland. It's nice to see no one wants the easy option.
If one option doesn't become a clear winner, I'll try to accommodate all players.

Yep, that's exactly why I dislike it, it's the easy and boring choice.

Twist ideas:

Roaming Islands: Extremely active plate tectonics lead to islands moving around and colliding with each other for turns at a time.
Collapsing Mainland: The mainland is slowly dissolving into islands. Meanwhile, the pre-existing islands are forming a new mainland.

So will we be able to create our own species or will the tribes be humans?

You could do something like

Recovering world: The world is a single large landmass recovering from some sort of cataclysmic disaster. At first, only small isolated sections are habitable, but those areas are rapidly increasing until the entire world is habitable.

So will we be able to create our own species or will the tribes be humans?

You will start with your own little critters that are somewhat vulnerable, and kinda dumb, with the goal of evolving them into something that isn't vulnerable and not all that dumb. I'm assuming most people will aim for sapience, but I also assumed archipelago would be the second most popular option.

As far as the tectonic plates idea goes, I like it, but I'd rather leave cool things like that to be decided by the gods when they are strong enough. I do like the recovering worlds option though, especially because of how close 'mix' and 'continent' are. Of course, by the time we have tribes you'll be strong enough to just raised your own island...so we shall see!

Voting is closed, and I will begin working on a template for you to create a god/critter.

I wouldn't suggest it, but I'm open to seeing what happens. Maybe your neighbor will be willing to share.

God Design

Name:
Appearance: (Right now, you are small and weak, more of a magical being than a god. As your power grows, so will you, until you are strong enough to abandon your mortal shell. For now, this is all you've got.)

Creature Design

Name:
Description: (Your creature should start off small enough to avoid starvation. Try to keep it simple to start, if they are too complex, I may give them a population hit.)
Personality: (Are they aggressive, or passive, territorial, or cohabiting? This is where you would put this, just to give me an idea of how they would react to certain stimuli.)

God:
Nefertem the Sleek, a great amphibious serpent covered in flowers with the head of a lion.

Creature:
The Artless, a horde of small (ranging from, say, mouse-sized to squirrel-sized) scavenging (but opportunistically predatory) lizard-fish things with a wide range of physical features, no two of which look quite alike. They look like they were thrown together from parts plucked from the bargain bin of biology. They are sneaky, crepuscular creatures that prefer to avoid conflict, but respond aggressively like a cornered animal when they find it. Within the species they're fairly well-coordinated and not particularly territorial, though it's rare (but not unheard of) for them to display highly cooperative tactics like swarming large prey. They can survive on land, but prefer the water, and sleep and breed in waterlogged tunnels deep underground wherever there is enough groundwater.

God:
Name: Wattabo
Appearance: A mass of snakes woven together in a humanoid form.

Creature:
Name: Wyrm
Description: A long worm around the length of half a human's forearm. Very parasitic. Bore into flesh and devour larger creatures from the inside, secreting painkillers all the while so the creature doesn't notice anything(or shouldn't notice anything) until it's dead. To reproduce, bites its rear end and turns into a ring of eggs, which hatch in several weeks into baby Wyrms that promptly devour the creature they inhabit from the inside(and only adult Wyrms have painkillers, so this is an excruciating process).
Personality: Aggressively seek bodies to inhabit, once inside a body, eat it slowly. Willing to share food with other worms. May inhabit corpses if desperate, but prefer live hosts. Respond to being attacked outside a host to trying to infest the attacker, respond to being attacked inside a host by trying to move elsewhere in the host, deeper.

God

Name: Zlaun the Watchful
Appearance: A small levitating blob of tendrils and eyestalks, centered around a gaping maw filled with razor-sharp teeth and prehensile tongues, its color fluctuates constantly and its skin is translucent to some extent.

Creature

Name: Ztreyok
Description: A tiny, asexual slug-like organism that is instinctively driven to consume any biological matter it can, and upon reaching roughly fifty pounds, reproduce through fission, splitting into two or more new individuals with some of their ancestor's memories. They live for months before fission, or up to two years without fission.

Their silvery glistening bodies are entirely featureless, apart from a short pair of eyestalks, and a relatively enormous toothless mouth that dissolves organic matter with acidic saliva before filtering it through its extensive stomach system, extracting most usable nutrients, and regurgitating bodily waste in small, rocky pellets.

They are incredibly slow moving, have extremely poor senses aside from their mediocre eyesight, and are more or less completely defenseless against predators. Their only saving grace is the fact that they taste terrible and have a strong enough immune system to resist most pathogens in their environment.

Personality: They tend to congregate into large groups to lessen the odds of any one organism being consumed, and slowly swarm across the landscape, digesting everything in their path and leaving nothing but barren wasteland in their wake.

God
God's Name: Y'shaxy, the Omniscient
Appearance: A big mass of thickened, scaly tentacles encompass the centralized orb, with the orb conveying thousands of eyes surrounding the orb. The tentacles have sharpened points and move in unpredictable patterns, as if they have a mind of their own

Creature
Name: Stormapod
Description: A decently large predator, almost the size of a large dog. These crustacean arthropods are essentially giant lobsters, with a rainbow colored or vividly colored shell. Their two eye-stalks can see in a higher volume spectrums of lights, but most importantly can see in the infra-red to detect creatures heat signatures. Also through periods of strenuous natural selection, they have developed advanced immunity systems that have prioritized killing parasites and other infestering locusts, that dare try to attack such a magnificent creatures. These lobsters, have one other special property and that is they have the ability to propel their claw-fists at such a high velocity, that it can break the sound barrier, meaning their claw-fists can penetrate flesh or even break bones with their melee attacks. Being about the size of a canine, their metabolism system is in need of constant replenishment of sustenance, so these apex predators are always on the constant need to feed their carnivores appetite.
Personality: Aggressively seeking preys of any form, they perform a variety of tactics and methods to achieve food. They usually perform strikes suddenly against lesser prey and quickly gobble them up with their filter mouths, and they also likes to toy with their prey by making them perform endurance tests against them. The prey is constantly running alway from the giant lobsters, unknowingly that the lobster isn't tiring out but instead tiring out the prey, a method called persistence hunting

God
Name: Cratus(Pronounced Cray-toas)
Appearance:

Creature
Name: Kludge
Description: bulky creatures with leathery skin, a bit smaller overall than a chimpanzee. They walk on their knuckles like many apes. They have a thick, rocky shell on multiple parts of their body(specifically, the torso, the top of their head, their forearms, and their lower legs) and a dense endoskeleton, these aspects make them slow but tough, and poor swimmers. Their arms are very thick, especially at the end, where they have non-opposable three fingered hands that are covered by gauntlet like bone plates, Their shoulders are uniquely designed to be able to rotate a full 360 degrees(give or take about ten depending on the individual) and then can lock, once locked, they can release and swing back around with great force. They are mostly herbivorous, and usually gather food from trees by using their arms to bludgeon the trees, shaking fruit and leaves loose and fracturing bark, which they also eat when smashing off small enough pieces. They lay eggs rather than giving live birth, but are warm blooded and lack scales.
Personality: They are rather territorial, living in small family groups of up to four adults(one male three female or 50/50 gender split) and six children, excess eggs are broken and eaten. They compete for territory with each other by bashing the others head with fully wound strikes, with the most damaged of the two backing off.
