Roboson you are right apologies i have not seen that edit...

EDIT: fixed. you now have FOUR reform actions this turn. That being said, madman your action is impossible, Nuke tried it last turn, with a slightly different spin. Slums cannot be made useful.

Not even through a functional equivalent of demolition?

The basic idea is to save resources by shredding what's there and making it, you know, workable-ish.

Right, Looking at this, I think in order to please High Society, we have to spend 4 of our 5 building actions on raising the spire with Hab Blocks. The last one should obviously be use to build a Farm.

Spoiler: Proposed Build Plan (click to show/hide)

So, I shall start:

Build Action: Build a Hab Block

Level 5: __A__
Level 4: __H__
Level 3: __HSS
Level 2: _SHSS
Level 1: FSHSF

The middle class main concern is of security, and with the influx of 2 hundred refugees towards the arcology, this seems like a fair assessment. A method of automation and mechanization should be used because then our technicians and engineers can operate as security measures, not just the security personnel. Normal policing would have difficulty

Reform: Drone Security
Eventually with our surplus of refugees, things like riots and protests are bound to happen, we need more sophisticated methods of security control than are more useful than just security personnel. These remotely controlled riot drones, or RCR Drones, are simple machines with rotary blades to allow basic flight, that with a inserted camera can act as CTTV surveillance that can monitor common traffic zones of areas such as slums and Hab zones. These drones are implemented with a miniaturized auto-cannon to best show force against rioters, again the best feature is that no loss of life is needed to protect against riots and only drones are used. The drone are all powered by a main terminal facility, that also deploys these drones. That terminal facility is sustained by middle-class engineers and security personnel, who act as technicians and dispatch-call for the drones.

New Reform: Maintenance Access Facility: This facility is given multiple tasks that it must perform, but it's primary task is to utilize "venting" around other facilities and by creating a central ducting system, that can be used to redirect and manipulate the air flow, which will allow it to reduce the general heat produced by surrounding buildings. It most importantly provides access so that future improvements and modifications can be made to surrounding facilities. It's secondary purpose is to maintain and repair the surrounding buildings, as an attempt to reduce the general upkeep created by the buildings. Preferably the aura is of reasonable size, from 3 blocks width and across

Reform: Research Block
When sufficiently funded, a research block will allow for an additional reform action.

RE: Drone Security and Scaffolding: Neither of these is something we need yet, especially with the rising tide of slums meaning we'll need to continue building the spire upwards anyhow. Waiting for that population growth to taper off before either of these would be a good idea. Especially since the amount of building actions is still limited.

Either way, we only have so many building actions, and wasting them on building nothing is a bad idea.

Reform: Cleansing Fire
All legally-constructed towers currently in existence and any built in the future will be outfitted with Flare Stacks on the uppermost (official) level. These Flare Stacks - which are dismantled when blocks are legally placed on a legal tower and moved to the new top - allow any illegal constructions on top of those towers to be quickly and efficiently eliminated at the beginning of a turn, to preserve the aesthetic of the Arcology. Of course we will only do this when we are sure nobody is living in those constructions. For now.

The flare stacks add 1 credit to the maintenance cost of each uppermost building. Activating the flare stack costs either 100 heat or 10 credits if the required heat is not already available. Although flaring off unwanted heat is fairly safe, producing those quantities of heat in situ somewhat increases the risk of fire in the tower. Also, while, the flare stacks are obviously shielded underneath, their activation does produce a lot of fire that could potentially spread to any adjacent, higher towers.

As an aside, realistically, a Soylent factory should take less upkeep than a farm. More initial cost, for sure, but crops of any kind are fairly work-intensive.

I'd also like to urge both helmacon and Shadowclaw to either change to a building action or at least make a reform that is going to be practically useful in the near term. In the latter case, might I suggest - I'm going to do it next term if not, of course - adding some fireproof cladding to the sides of official buildings to reduce the risk of sideways fire transfer?

Max, I urge you to reconsider everything in that post.

Flares are the WORST idea we've yet seen in this thread. The maintenance center lowers fire risk and allows for later-game stuff to be done, but they need to be installed now, rather than later. The no-more-slums reform (Provides space for new refugees as we raise buildings, instead of allowing them to build slums) will prevent slums from appearing and screwing with our High Society requirements (Much as I hate appeasing those narcissists, we're going to need the advantages for the early game), and the scaffolding is just a nightmare.

Ghaz, can you confirm that a player can post a reform and can then post a building action as well? Otherwise we're going to have to double up building actions for certain (Though I think that, given the number of habs we're trying to build this turn, that's going to happen anyways).

No, I think it's somewhat undesirable and probably not legal, since it doesn't make much physical sense. A reform dictating that all construction devote space to maintenance access and venting might be more appropriate, although it would no doubt have to be paid for with reduced capacity... that said, perhaps we should first ask whether our non-slum buildings contain adequate ventilation and maintenance access to begin with, since, after all, we already actually build things that way in real life.

If you mean that it's pretty silly and pointless, we're agreed there.
