The Bay12 Peers Hivemind
« on: October 03, 2017, 04:29:34 am »

Ever hesitated on a minor decision? Ever wished you could let the Bay12 masses do your thinking for you? Then this is the thread for you.

How it works

Someone posts a question, with multiple choices. (Maybe as a Strawpoll) Then people vote on the answers. (With or without justifications for their choices) Then you may (or may not) do what Bay12 says.

To start things off, what games should I buy for myself this Christmas?

Cuphead: Cave Story meets Looney Tunes meets boss rush games. Apparently pretty great.
Tokyo 47: Cyberpunk isometric stealth third person shooter.
Shadowrun Hong Kong: RPG set in the My Little Pony universe and is full of rainbows and ponies. Just kidding, it's Shadowrun.
None/Cyberpunk 2077: Upcoming RPG game made by the same guys who made The Witcher 3, which was apparently very good. Also I think it's set in the same universe as Ready Player One? I have no idea. I like cyberpunk if you can't tell. Oh, and it probably will come out in 2019 rather than this year so it's pretty much identical to "don't buy anything." I don't really have much time to play games yet anyways and I play a lot of TF2 and Overwatch when I do, plus I have other games I haven't finished yet. I haven't even finished OneShot. Or I can just buy a book.

If you don't know what OneShot is, you should play it. Or not. Depends on whether or not you like adorable cat children and apocalypses.

You know that I'm a sucker for cyberpunk and Shadowrun so yeah, that's what I reckon. Shadowrun Hong Kong was pretty fun in my opinion.

Buy a book you friggin' nerd.
Also, cool thread idea. I mean, we already have the "small, random questions" thread but it sees little use and I rarely receive answers there quickly enough to help me with the mundane, tedious, minor everyday decisions I struggle so much with.

It probably won't take until christmas, but definitely finish Oneshot first, it's great. And a little trippy. Seriously, the end is weird.
I haven't played any of those games, but I'll give you my read on them:
Cuphead doesn't seem very similar to Cave Story to me, lacking in any kind of deeper story. You'll probably spend more time fighting bosses than running across stages. It's also a hard game, not really for people who won't bash their head against a boss a few dozen times.
Tokyo 42 looks really cool to me, with it's perspective and such. It has a local multiplayer mode, which looks cool as well.
I don't know much of anything about Shadowrun Hong Kong.
There's probably not much point in considering Cyberpunk 2077 until it's, you know, out. I don't think there's even any gameplay videos for it, so for now it's an intriguing non-game.

I honestly don't know enough about what kinds of games you like to give a real recommendation, especially from a lineup of games I haven't personally played (but they're all on my 100+ game long wishlist! ;P), so instead I'll just blurt out a game I like: Heat Signature!

Here's the steam review I wrote, because I can't be assed to write a plug for this game multiple times!
Quote
So much teleporting and whacking and speeding and shooting and hacking and smashing and exploding and defenestrating. Very recommended, 'specially if you like going fast and hitting people with wrenches/swords/knives/bullets/grenades/vacuum.
Also remember that subverters can unlock doors! Very useful!

I'll vote for Tokyo 42 on the strawpoll, for the flimsy reason that I think it's the one I'd like the most.

Oh, one more thing is that Tokyo 42 is a "daylight cyberpunk" setting as opposed to shadowrun where it's obviously all dark and shadowy. This means that Tokyo 42 has pretty colors and stuff to go along with your bullets and blood, which I sometimes prefer. None of that really matters, but it's another way of looking at things!

Yes! You should feed and water yourself every day. Other activities optional, but don't get thirsty!
If you intend to leave the house, yes. If you're at home, just wear socks.

Yes. You should get out of bed and go buy some rad new shoes, that way in future the thought of putting on your kickass kicks will be enough to inspire you to head out and enjoy the day.
