Oz, seriously, what are you doing?
Faffing about. Testing the edges of the gameworld. Staying out of the way of the plot events going on near the village.
Or to be more specific, what are your character's motivations for doing this?
You are under a misconception here. I do not have a character. I am merely giving suggestions for Egan's character. Egan decided, via IRC, that he would make Arcturus 'Mad.' I told Egan that if he did so, it would no longer be my character but his. Note that I requested the moniker be removed. it was not. Also of note, your name came up in that conversation.
Egan's character is a product of his fantasy space magic civilization, and I am not capable of understanding the way they think. So, I am having fun seeing how this particular one reacts to external stimuli (aka, my suggestions). Or maybe it's 'the voice of schizophrenia' that he is responding to. What do I know?
It seems like your actions are just out of spite towards Egan
I'm sorry, I'm getting yelled at for faffing about?
Why is Arturus wandering literally randomly through the woods?
He's not? He took one step north. If i would hazard a guess, I would say Arcturus is leaving his fate in the hands of the omnipotent, and exploring a new world in which the rules are noticeably different than the ones that have come before.
But maybe he's bored, or suicidal, or maybe he's looking for something specific, that can be found only with careful analysis of the mechanics of his world. He IS a scientist and engineer, after all. Why, he even has the title 'Doctor.' I assume that's his title, and not his given name. Also, he does have the "Medic" and "Armorer" attributes. I assume armorer is what he rolled in order to make that die. The one he made out of a twig and a leaf. So, a failed roll, if it was rolled at all. Note that Egan reserves the right to fudge rolls for amusement or interest. So I assume this is the most amusing outcome of that roll. It was for me, anyway. Well, I suppose throwing a rock with berry juice on it into the air, and having it fall into a stream or something might have been amusing too. Oh, like bouncing off some NPC's head! That would have been funny.
How does this further Arturus's goals?
Beats me. I don't know what Arturus' goals are.
If he were my character, and I were in charge of his goals, these actions would be achieving them in these ways:
1) as stated, he would be testing the magicophysical properties of this world.
2) as stated, he would be staying out of trouble
3) they provide him an opportunity to find side adventures. I had hoped to commit medicine on some natives not protected by PCs. That seems an unlikely outcome at this point, so I don't mind sharing that with you.
4) it provides invisible
catfoxgirl snipers an opportunity to take out an isolated enemy target for power and advancement. This furthers the goals your character's faction has, as stated in the OP: something about this being a kill or be killed world for people with your kind of power. Note that I do not say this further's your character's goals. It probably does, but I don't know what your character's goals are, really. And while death does not further Arturus in anyway, except to end his story, it would further my goal of seeing what the advancement process looks like, while at the same time allowing hostilities to open and really getting the game rolling. And that seems to be something Egan would want, or at least would be amused by.
but let's look at Arturus' likely goals and what he could do at this point in the game to further them, and then let's ask if these actions are an unreasonable alternative:
1) he is a medic. also, he has that field surgery kit. No one is hurt, and everyone is doing their best (as far as he knows) not to cause trouble. He has no reasonable action to take in order to perform medicine.
2) he is an armorer. He has no material with which to create advancements to his devices, nor do I have any OOC knowledge of how that mechanic works. That's kinda a "wait until someone dies and find out" situation, I think.
3) He doesn't really want to hurt anyone. His one weapon is designed not to kill, but has unknown effects, up to and including the possibility of summoning Space Chthulu and his maidens. We won't know until he tries it. And he can't try it on himself: he hasn't any manablood of his own.
4) He is Mad. Again, this title was granted via IRC, and against my wishes. But, I'll play him as Mad. I already yielded my criticisms and complaints against the game and against Egan, so I'm just rolling with it at this point. Note this, again via IRC: Arturus is delusional. Arturus believes we are here to trick you guys into selling your souls to demons in exchange for power via your blood.
