I'm doing a college assignment for a class in public speaking, and I chose Dwarf Fortress as the subject of my informative speech. Does Toady see the Dwarf Fortress wiki (This one: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Main_Page) as a legitimate source of information regarding Dwarf Fortress? And if there's no definitive answer, where would I find the 2nd best source of credible information?

You could post in Future of the Fortress I suppose. That's due for a response this weekend.
However, dfwiki is a fan made effort with no quality control, so while it's really helpful in places, it does contain a fair few errors (nothing too serious, but some old information copied over and not yet updated here and there).

Toady definitely sees it as legitimate since he mentions it in the readme.txt file and in the help menu

As of July 2016, you can also get help at the fan-created dwarffortresswiki.org.  Please make use of and contribute to this valuable resource.

Though keep in mind that dwarffortresswiki.org, IMO, is *not* a completely reliable source of information, since a great quantity of the info on there has been held over from previous versions of DF and is no longer true.

The closest thing Bay12 has to a flamewar is an argument over philosophy that slowly transitioned to an argument about quantum mechanics.

The trick is to only make predictions semi-seriously.  That way, I don't have a 98% failure rate. I have a 98% sarcasm rate.

As one of the people who writes *pages and pages and pages* of stuff in the forums but has never updated the wiki, I hang my head in shame...  Kind of weirdly, I view the wiki as being too authoritative for me to subject my random scribbling to.  Which is probably a stupid way to think about it...
