Some of these personal missions are absurdly brutal. My very first one had a couple dozen permanently-shielded enemies running around with longswords, and perma-shielded bosses carrying keycards with shotguns. The ship had lots of turrets and a very short alarm response time. My Shockcoil Launcher (the self-charging subversive grenade launcher I mentioned on the first page) helped a lot, but I had to be very *very* careful to not subvert the turrets lest they alert the guards with their ineffectual shooting. Had to restart many times due to bad placement but eventually made it.

Hum. I just boarded a random ship looking to get loot. After some amusing bashing guards and dancing around with my teleporters, I ended up in the room with the loot box, next to a shielded, alerted guard with a gun. So I open the box and grab a rechargeable slipstream. Score, right? I run out to the next room, which has a window in it, and shoot the window. However, that room also had a couple dropped swords in it, so they flew into space with me and apparently one hit me, because I started bleeding. I'd taken enough wounds before that that I couldn't catch myself in time and bled out. First death by bleeding, and it's by a flying sword that I set in motion myself. >_>

I figured out that if you blow up those fuel tanks, you knock out the engines, so timers and alarms are disabled, just like if you killed a captain.

Also, if you recruit another person's character, you get a few items from them:

I gotta say that I love the little philosophical discussions you can have with people in the stations after liberating each faction's stronghold. The Glitcher one's probably my favorite.

I don't know if anyone blundered into this yet, but subverters actually unlock doors within their range. That makes them massively more useful than I'd previously thought.

Yeah, I found this out when using one to subvert a turret behind a locked door. It was a good thing (I blew up the room going to the guy with the key), but a full squad of enemies could see me, now that there wasn't the door... and the turret didn't look toward them :(

This turns Subverters from situationally better than Crashbeams to actually the best utility gadget, and required for Ghost missions.

Also, in further tips: if you walk up behind an unaware guard, you can pickpocket a key from them. It's great for Ghost/Pacifist missions.

So this means that my shockcoil launcher is/was basically infinite keys. Goddamn.

So, are you guys saying that if you have friends on Steam who also play the game, you have a chance to get their items/characters? How does that work?

When you retire a character, you can leave one item to become a random drop. You can name it, and it will show up later in other games. If your Steam friends have retired characters, you can find their legacy items as random drops as well. So that kickass gun, or rechargeable extreme range swapper, or ridiculous grenade launcher can show up in other people's games and visa versa.
