The Calamities of the New Gods (Godgame, OOC thread)
« on: September 20, 2017, 08:14:25 am »

I've been wanting to run a god game for a while now so I'd thought I'd give it go. What's different in this game is that going overboard with your god powers will cause Calamities to occur. Calamities can be a good thing but mostly they can disrupt everyone's plans. Greater Calamities are potentially be very disruptive. Now I've tried to explain the rules as clearly as I could but I am rather bad at explaining things so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Name: Margor
Sphere: Beasts, Improvement
Description: "Must improve. Must defeat. Need essence-matter..."

Margor is a  five-headed chimera consisting of a crow, wolf, leopard, auroch, and snake. Shee is a beast of a god as comfortable on two legs as she is on four. Brutal, cunning, wise, determined and patient, she seeks the domination of the world not just for herself, but for nature's greatness. In all ways, this must be done by constant improvement, by constant testing and competition where only the best lead.

Alternatively...

Name: Astarth
Sphere: the Moon, Night, Moon, Love, Outcasts
Description: "A world bewitched by reality; a world scorned by creativity. By dream I come to cure disease awoken by the sun, in hope of days awash in moonglow nights."

Astarth is the regal and eccentric White Lady, she who rules over the moons and she who bends their light and mass to her will. This said, she is not a harsh mistress, for she considers herself a patron of love. To love is the strongest of all emotions, and to love those considered Outcasts by society and the world, is the greatest love of them all. As such, under her dominion, the night is not a time of fear or hiding, but of gentle love and acceptance. Or at least, this is what she tries to accomplish.

Name: Acter
Sphere: Improvement and Science
Description: The single most important thing to Acter is the mortals' ability to improve themselves and the world around them regardless of divine interference. He prefers to interact more subtly with reality, tending to work through heroes and directed lesser calamities.
Appearance: He appears like the most basic sketch of a humanoid figure, including all the lines artists use to set proportions on the face.

Hmm, hmm.

Name: Exkit
Sphere: Fire (& Smithing, if secondary spheres are OK)
Description: Exkit burns with a desire to see the world engulfed in flames. Yet flames require fuel, and Exkit knows this- he constantly seeks to quench his destructive desires, lest there be nothing left to burn. Indeed, he seeks to encourage creation and growth where he can, serving as the patron of smiths. But inevitably, he eventually loses control, and all that he has wrought, all that he has protected, goes up in flames. These fires burn themselves out, in time, and Exkit mourns the losses, attempting to undo the damage.
Exkit manifests as fire incarnate, roiling flames and molten rock swirling around in the shape of a man. However, his self-control sees him clad in something resembling a suit of armour, plates of obsidian covering the fire within, leaving only a handful of cracks through which the inferno may be glimpsed.

Eh, about that name. It is possible that someone called AbstractTraitorHero will want to join this game, in which case having a god called ATH will be confusing as all getout.

Acter and Astarth are in (seeing as how having two gods of improvement might be awkward)
Exkit is interesting with the whole cyclical struggle with his own destructive nature and is also in.
ATH may find it hard to get worshipers when competing with the other gods but you probably knew that when you made him so your in.

Uhh fancy, i like the mechanics.

Several Questions though: how do mortals work in conjunction with Servants/Gods, as in can mortals for example fight and bring down Servants, or are they basically screwed?

Servants: what prevents me from manifesting the Slayer of Gods powerlevel 18 fighting (for example) and just go around murdering every other Servant in the area? Can they escape? Avoid combat?

Gods: what happens after a god loses a fight against a servant below 10 power difference? Is he banished to somewhere, is he penalized in any way?

If you'll have me i'd really like to join btw.

I think describing Margor as "improvement" may have been a bit of a misnomer. At the very least, it's a very different kind from Acter's improvement.

Acter is about the study of the world, and using both science and magic to become smarter, and creating things to overcome your weaknesses. Protect yourself from that which may harm you, and turn it toward your own purposes.

Margor seems more like survival of the fittest, forcing nature to improve as the weak die out. Stronger, deadlier, those are the ways he makes his creations. Become stronger than your enemies and destroy them.

Two very different approaches to the sphere of improvement, and unlikely to be confused. Think civilization versus nature, how civilizations improve together while nature improves in pieces.

Gonna try something different here. If you don't think it'll mesh well, then strength god is my back up.

Name: Lu
Sphere: Caeterus (The Other)
Description: Lu is an usual god. He reigns over something called the caeterus, a strange alien force which twists reality and nature into some unusual otherworldly landscape. The nature equivalent of antimatter, the Other and Nature cannot coexist very well, often converting large swathes of Nature until it loses momentum and recedes back, leaving deadlands between itself and its opposing force.

Yeah, thanks. I mean, ATH (the forum user) might not even join this game, but they've joined the previous two godgames that popped up, so it can't hurt to be safe, you know?

Exkit is interesting with the whole cyclical struggle with his own destructive nature and is also in.
Hopefully, yeah.

How's that? People gotta eat, right? Sure, it might not be as flashy as some other spheres, but it covers a very basic mortal need. (Also, codybob changed the name to Gnyr, in case you missed it)
