linking 2 bridges to 1 lever
« on: September 18, 2017, 09:11:13 am »

Is this even possible? I've tried in the past and usually, when the lever is pulled one bridge ignores the first pull, and then they switch. One bridge goes up as the other comes down.

I want a single lever to close off multiple entrances into the fortress.

Ok well this worked, it's incredibly annoying when things work right after you post.

Levers always send "on" and "off" signals corresponding to their current state, not "toggle", so two bridges linked to a single lever should never be "out of sync" for any significant period of time:

* Bridge 1 Open, Bridge 2 Closed
* Pull Lever to Open - Bridge 1 ignores, Bridge 2 starts Opening
* 100 ticks later, Bridge 1 still Open, Bridge 2 now Open

* Bridge 1 Open, Bridge 2 Closed
* Pull Lever to Close - Bridge 1 starts Closing, Bridge 2 ignores
* 100 ticks later, Bridge 1 now Closed, Bridge 2 still Closed

Bridges can still "jam" if they are obstructed by a large creature - retracting and raising bridges will refuse to operate, and lowering bridges (attempting to atom-smash) will deconstruct.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Yeah after posting I was kind of glad I did anyhow because this used to really annoy the hell out of me - last time I played was probably...over a year or more ago.

I kind of wondered if anyone would say anything as it occurred to me it might've been a bug at the time.

Or as you say perhaps I just didn't use it very much before disassembling them.

Thanks.
