So, Solon Lisiddastot is stuck in a tree lights up in something import is happening purple
and the game pauses and zooms me too him
and..?
I don't know how to get him down.

Build stairs for him to get down (don't forget to build down stairs on top of your up stairs). You can also build some floor over to him if he's in an awkward spot.

Or just chop the tree down...

If in a hurry, chopping the tree down is the fastest, with a risk of injury. If not time critical I'd build stairs (with the axe ready as a backup). I suspect the "important thing" happening was a strange mood, and you've got a fair bit of time before a workshop has to be claimed.
