Turn 0: Exodus

The Wheel Turns.

-3:28, Twenty-Eight Mantras of Making.


It has not been long since the sun was born, since the stars first shined or the moon became real. Their existence was still yet a novelty to the immortal gods that inhabited Knossos, their placement in the skies a crude replacement for what had once been. Even so, the gods paid their thanks to their fellows who had given their lives to forge them, allowing the world to live once more.

In the mere centuries since the Age of Darkness began to end, the gods had already turned upon themselves, no longer having a common foe nor the order imposed by the greater gods, the Baal-Adonai. They all had their reasons. Some spoke of restoring order, others of grand utopias. Some aligned themselves with their Core being, changing the world to suit their primal focus. Some opened court to their mortal followers, seeking what they sought and doing what they desired. Some became tyrants, doing as they wished not for any grander goal, but simply for the pleasure of rule. And of course, in all these conflicting designs, there were always those who lost.

To the vanquished lied many fates. Some were made vassals, other prisoners. Some were kept as pets, others as trusted advisers. A few were killed or maimed by their opponents, while an unfortunate few had their very divine souls extinguished forevermore.

Then there were the Exiled, those who were spared from thralldom and death, those who were allowed to seek out a life amongst the Darkness, where the Light did not yet touch.

In the centuries since the Dark began to recede, the gods and their wards had gathered around the old sanctuaries of the Baal-Adonai, where life had begun to return first. To live in the dead lands of the Darkness was to accept death, to accept every plight known to god and mortal. Without the Light of the Sun or the tiny creatures that inhabited the soil and sea, how could one survive? What use was a farmer without a field, a fisherwoman without a fish? And even beyond these mundane problems, darker things still lurked beyond, those souls left behind when the Age of Darkness first began, or abominations born from the Dark itself.

And so, to be exiled, was to accept a prolonged death sentence. True, there was a chance of survival, to eek out a new life free from limitations, to expand the reaches of the Light and shape a part of the world to suit one's desires...but to do so would to be a truly heroic feet. Even for the gods.

And yet, here on the eve of the fourth century since the death of the Baal-Adonai, the Exiles entered the Lands of Twilight and began their lives anew.

The Lands of Twilight were the physical borders between the lands where the Light touched, and the lands where Darkness still remained. Here, one could see the beauty of natural life, alongside  the pallidness and unnatural nature of those afflicted with the Dark. It was on the eastern Twilight Lands that the first Exiled cohort assembled, preparing to brave the border in search of greener pastures, if such a thing existed beyond.

They were a motley collection of humanoid and construct rejects, left with nothing but a small periapt containing the souls of their last followers, as well as a sort of 'farewell gift' from the other gods. They were not completely without heart and should the Exiled succeed in settling beyond, then they would also aid in expanding the Lands of Light. As such, even those that had defeated them had now given them a few boons so that perhaps, the world would quicken towards its former state, before the Dark came.

First to gather at the edge was the living clock tower Tick, rusted and ancient by the wears of Time, its intentions were pure as any god could be. To restore the world, and restore itself. Soon behind him was the great cyclops Cavefriend, devout aid and protector of his allies and the denizens of the caverns. For a few moments the two measured each other and wondered by what reasons they had come to meet, but this was soon broken by the arrival of the others.

Feathered Lu, the infamous storyteller. FiDEM, single-minded construct hellbent on Marriage by any means. Ancient Indefatigable, cheery and wise as the smile on her face. The nameless Keeper, he who craves his own Dark to rule. and Orgull, the defeated mistress of Pride, who even now sought to regain her own pride.

Whatever their goals, another decision now opened up to them: where would they settle?

The current routes and locations are known to all, due to previous expeditions. One may settle anywhere beyond the Lands of Twilight, which is the starting point of the journey. Travelling between areas costs 1 Act. Travelling through two known areas without stopping costs only 1 Act. E.g. Travelling from Grottwalk to Highwald is only 1 Act. New areas and routes may be discovered during the journey.           

It is imperative that a god create or find mortals as soon as possible. However, immediately settling on the lands just beyond the Light would be seen as a near-violation of one's Exile as well as likely opening conflict with the gods already inhabiting the border. Furthermore, it is often the Lands of Twilight that sees the worst the Dark has to offer, as its denizens offer one last resistance to the triumph of Light.

As such, a god must choose a location both far away enough so as to be Exiled, but near enough so that they still have enough stored Acts to survive and find worship.

Moments passed in silence, before Tick spoke:

"TICK", he said, indicating his intention to travel to the Anvil of Moros, and inviting any number of the other gods to join him in his quest to reclaim the holy mountain.

With that, the ancient construct stirred to life. The sound of a thousand boilers heating was accompanied by the groaning of steel, as the four great legs righted themselves, and began to make hesitant steps towards the Grottwald. The great clock chimed: a hand on the third face moved, indicating that the Age of Darkness had ended, and that a new Age was upon them.

Two (I think?) Acts: Move to the Anvil of Moros.

From the moment FIDeM had been exiled (thrown out by betrayers, and yet ironically nourished by the kindness of said traitors), he had known where he would go. The Megapolis had once been a thrumming core of life, of love, of marriage... of betrayal as much as of loyalty, but a place of grandeur and to be cherished nonetheless. However, FIDeM saw the constructs, broken, roaming the streets of the city, aimless and abandoned... and he felt a kinship.

He did not remember. He did not remember. He did not remember. His purpose, the reason he had become what he had become, the things that seemed to be so important, so close to the grasp of his memory and yet invariably too far away. All he knew now were bonds, bonds of loyalty, because partners, couplings of trust and defense and support, and he knew that he would bring them to these poor, lonesome constructs that so attracted his empathy. He would repair them with purpose. He would repair them with love. He would repair them with iron, unforgiving loyalty.

"Resolute: I shall leave for the Abandoned Megalopolis. Tender: I shall provide repair and succor to those who need it most. Determined: I shall introduce marriage, and aid them in supporting each other."
One (or two if that's what it is) acts to get to the Abandoned Megapolis.

Lu knew where he would travel from the moment he was exiled. Krater's Rest. There where monsters there, and perhaps even men. For a god of Lu's unique tastes, it would serve as a perfect home. He spared little thought on the other exiles around him, many were likely to die in these lands, Lu would think about them if they managed to survive.

Orgull. Was quiet. Ruminating and thinking on the situation they were in. Staring as everyone around them left or began to leave.
 Orgull....did not want to be alone. They had withdrawn and were angry and they in truth had no idea what they were doing. Their childlike form...portrayed their age as a god rather well to be honest. But it was with a head held high and noticing....the disrepair...the... the destruction of the metropolis and its automatons that moved them towards a side. They would make it a gleaming bastion of pride and its people glorious. While also making that other god see them as great as they truly are.

Their voice came out. Strange. Not fitting her body. An echoey masculine powerful menancing timber to it as they flew towards the metropolis and alongside FIDeM.


"Well now. It appears you have someone grand joining you on your little adventurer. Let us and let me make something of this downtrodden place. Do not screw me or I will make you pay. Understand?"

Go along with FIDeM to the metropolis.

FIDeM noticed that he was being followed by another god, and for a moment he just turned to watch her (him, maybe, the robotic god idly wondered as it spoke its threat and its proclamations). He took a moment to consider his response, silently continuing his walk for a few moments, before he spoke up once more, his voice metallic but decidedly masculine, yet still completely monotone.
"Serious: My domain is of marriage, and loyalty is my reason to be. Betrayal is not within my nature. Unimpressed: If it is in yours, however, you will need to do better to threaten me, considering our present levels of might. Slightly menacing: As of this present moment, I am every bit as capable of punishing you for treachery as you are me."

Tick had known that none of them would join him, of course. No matter. His will alone would see the great forge cleansed.

Tick trudged through the Grottwald, weaving through the ancient timber. Occasionally his path was blocked, and he had to spend some time cutting through trees in all likelihood as old as he was, but eventually he emerged from the primordial forest into the Hills of Mist. The clouds could not obscure his path, for he Knew the way. The beasts of darkness scattered as he passed Krator's Rest, though Tick could see them sizing him up even as they cowered- no doubt gods had passed this way before who were so weak as to become prey of even such small fry. He made good time through the Highwald, or rather, he made haste through it, for the unnatural flesh-trees disturbed him- he would have to see about having the entire forest felled, some day.
So it was that Tick arrived on the slopes of the Anvil of Moros, a trail of broken gears and twisted metal in his wake. Tick could feel the being within, could hear the prayers of its twisted followers. Now was not the Time to meddle with it. The second hand of the third face struck two: now was the Time for rebirth.

Calling upon the souls of his fallen followers, Tick remembered their mortal forms. Delving into the earth at the foot of the volcano, Tick summoned fire and iron to him. Disgorging the animals he had collected from the Hills of Mist, and the flesh harvested from the Highwald, he began to craft.
Tick's memory was perfect, obviously. Unfortunately, his materials were not. That was his excuse, anyway. As he stitched and hammered flesh and iron, the shapes taking form certainly resembled the mortals he had once known. With two legs and two arms- mostly- and a head with all the right features- give or take one or two-, it could be possible, from a distance, in the dark, to mistake them for human. Alas, their (partially) furry skin, mismatched limbs, and parts made entirely of metal (which, Tick thought, he wasn't actually entirely sure was usual for living mortals) made them clearly a distinct race. As Tick transferred souls from his Periapt into their new bodies, he realised that unfortunately, for reasons beyond his control, some were incapable of life. Biology was a tricky pursuit, and Tick never truly understood the necessity of all the various organs.
Nevertheless, most of the souls managed to connect, and dozens of Makeshift mortals spluttered to life. They rose to their feet, observed their surroundings, and then observed themselves- and without exception, decried their own forms. Not an hour after their birth, the Makeshift were taking apart their failed brethren, performing surgery upon themselves to replace the parts they disliked with more suitable ones.

Act (from Periapt): Create the Makeshift, living mortals made up of a mishmash of parts, remarkably resilient, and ever driven to improve their own bodies, a feat they are perfectly capable of.

The Keeper turned and looked back. Back towards the lands covered by light. Mm. One day, he would return. For now, though...

An expenditure of divine power pushed power into the darkness. A pair of pitch black wings appeared on the Keeper's back, and he took flight. One act, not from periapt: fly to Krator's Rest.

I would encourage you Keeper to choose another home. I have already settled a path to Kraters Rest and I would hate for us exiles to be forced to quarrel over the lands we claim.

Raising an eyebrow equally unimpressed and unamused the small almost 12-year-old looking god gave a guffaw before their voice went down to a slightly lower timbre. Slightly threatening and clearly a warning.

"Hahahaha!  Oh, how "funny." I am the goddess of pride Orgull. I shall not "betray" you for that would leave a stain on me despite your inferiority I do not reign back on my honor. On my word. I am great and I have every intention to show you that, "Betraying" you or attacking you would just be...a waste. But. Do not threaten me again. I shall not tolerate and I can not tolerate it more than once."

Taking a deep breath their body relaxing as they slowed to a walk. Eyes closed. A childish feminine sounding voice coming out in the form of a sigh before it hardened back into its echoing masculine tone. A ruse perhaps? An attempt to sound how they imagine they should? Perhaps they might feel a bit of shame deep down at their core of their normal voice. Either way, their old voice returns though attempting to sound...slightly friendly. Yet still steadfast.

"My very being cannot. I intend to help these people and rise them to true greatness alongside you. Show me what you can do and how great you are and the pride you harbor and I will give you some respect. Deal?"

A grin forming as they looked up looking ever so slightly annoyed at the height difference a sly yet...honest look in their eyes. They were telling the truth at least for now..or at least they were trying their best to make you believe they were.

I appreciate it. In time I will come to repay you for this kindness. I will grant you the additional Act it would require for you to move on, once I have a source of income. I would not wish to unduly burden you by my selfishness.
