Restraints still attached to the restrained after removal
« on: September 15, 2017, 07:45:49 pm »

I posted some war doggies outside my dwarf tunnel and later removed the restraint building to place them elsewhere, but the ropes are in the dogs' inventories and I can't place the chains back on the ground. It just doesn't list any being available. I assume I could have unassigned the dog to the restraint first and then removed the chain, but now I just need the chain off the dog.

From the wiki.

Quote
Currently, due to a bug, a restrained animal will keep the restraint on their upper body if it's deconstructed while the animal is still restrained. This can be used to "equip" your beasts with decorations, such as spiked chain collars or lavish ropes, but has no in-game effect.

I don't know the fix.

I know I always say the solution is murder, but I think the solution is murder. Dogs are inherently unreasonable beings, so logically this means the only way you can get the chain off of them is to kill them.

Although, you do know you can get animals off of chains in ways other than deconstructing the chains? Just press Q again and assign the chain to Mr. Nobody.

I don't know if it works, but I'd try to mark the chains for dumping (and set up a dump zone). Since you can steal stuff from visitors that way, it might work to relieve dogs of stuff they shouldn't carry as well.

My solution was to butcher the doggies. I figure dogs are a more renewable resource than the chains. I don't have any farms set up or the seeds for plant fiber.

Funnily enough, I butchered the doggies out of annoyance and only discovered the chains were left on the ground by the butcher shop.
