Not *really.* The only problem is getting enough pearlash if you're on a map with magma.

It's still harder than icefarming.  You have to rely on trade routes, and getting a survivalist liason who won't enter the map right on top of the crocodile breeding grounds.

And as for crystal glass...  Much, much worse. You can't import rough gems, so you can only use the rock crystals that appear on your map.  Either that, or make a smelter reaction.
