"Find somewhere isolated where you can test your weapon without causing a scene or drawing unwanted eyes. If it doesn't need to be a lethal test, then just somewhere away from everything. If you need to see how dangerous it is, find a small village no one will care about. Standard procedure for testing new weapons. The second one is rarely used since you can get the same results without actually killing anyone usually but..."

Theodore gets an unusually serious expression.
"Unless it was also to silence someone here."

"Not unless it was a whole village or the information network has gotten extremely sloppy. One person can just go missing. You don't wipe out a square mile of land for one person. That leads to too many questions."

"Unless you wanted to send a message, and as messages go, this is a pretty clear one."

Soon enough, the rest of the group had assembled at the edge of the crater. Jack turned as they approached, and moved a hand toward one of his pockets, though instantly withdrawing it. Their leader jerked a thumb over his shoulder at the massive scar on the landscape.

"Welcome to Tselino. We're going to rest for a few minutes and then move on. We need someplace to camp once it gets dark, but it's possible the area will be being patrolled." Jack turned his back to the others, and stared into the pit.

Lucette looked out at the crater for a long moment, and her already-perpetually-disgruntled expression darkened several shades as she looked over at the crater. She put her fingers onto the bridge of her nose.
:"...fuck. Fucking Govitz. Well, this is what we're here to deal with then. Devastation. Great."
She shook her head, then sighed once more and fell silent.

"...We're here to deal with Hart. And, as far as we know, there's still one tome to bring home." Jack wasn't looking at anyone- just at the perfectly smooth hole that the stolen weapon had left.

Keyleth, of course, had already seen the destruction from the air. Now she sat on Skar's back, absentmindedly scratching the reptile's head to keep him calm and staring broodily at the crater.

:"It's the same damn thing, Jack. She gave the tomes to Govitz, and Govitz is using them to blow random people up. When we're getting the tomes, we're dealing with both Hart and Govitz, and we're stopping this shit."

"But why? Why erase this town? It's their people. What's the goal? Who profits? It doesn't add up." Jack rubbed his chin, staring darkly at the empty space that once held Tselino. "It's not as though it held general strategic value... Even if they were aware of the information network here, it's like cutting off a man's leg when he has a gangrene toe..."

Elanee was silent, waiting a moment before saying something, staring at the crater.
"Everyone knows that Govitz couldn't do this. They don't 'have' nullification tomes, unlike Ersht. At least, that's what it's gonna look like." She took a deep breath. "Maybe that's why? To give themselves a reason to go to war."
She kicked a pebble into the crater, and put a hand to her head, finally looking away.

"Fhuh.  Guess that'd be an idea.  And I doubt many of them would think too much on why Ersht would bother nullifyin' an out of the way town like this."

Ria slipped down from the pegasus, giving her a few pats as they all looked out over the crater.

"That, or they just wanted to test the thing.  And didn't much care who got hurt in the meantime.'"

Jack began to respond, but stopped. The reason was clear to any of them- There was a sound of beating wings. Jack whipped around, judging the distance to the treeline. It was much too far for the group to make it in time. "Take cover, we have incoming!"

Moments later, a small wing of wyvern knights flew into view, bearing down on the group. The one in the lead shouted a command. "This area is restricted! Surrender immediately!"

"We take them out, then move on-" Jack was interrupted by a ground control coming out of the forest, weapons at the ready. "Damn!"

>That is horrible and disgusting. It will no doubt set you apart and create fear in your team mates. So of course.
