: "...I'm not much for conversation. Haven't had a lot of practice at it."

Theodore laughs, a little bit. A slight hint of bitterness tinges his otherwise casual laugh.
"....I guess we have that in common, huh?"

[Sirus]

: "You speak more in one conversation than I do in a week. I find that hard to believe."

Not, she didn't bother to add, that he often said anything of value. Mostly just noise, really.

"You'd be surprised. Do you think you're the first one who's said that to me?"

"...I see. Well, hopefully after this you'll have the opportunity to see her again, if you so wish."

Evra paused and put a hand to her chin as if she was thinking deeply about her answer.

"Hmm, probably not. Unless you've seen an older me walking around; I'm told I'm her spitting image. And even then, she wasn't one to make a name for herself so I doubt she's someone to hear about. She wandered around Ersht for a while before settling with my father and she hasn't really done much but teach me and tend to the home since."

[Sirus]

Keyleth shrugged, starting to feel uncomfortable.

: "I really wouldn't know. Is it something you hear often?"

"Well. Anyway. I thought I'd just....check up on you, is all."

Lucette, to be frank, was not really in a state to know how to handle this anywhere close to eloquently.
:"O... oh. She... oh."
So Joi Hart was Jack's mentor, and he had to be the one to kill her.

Unable to really come up with a verbal response to that, it was Lucette's turn, now, to reach over and put a hand on Jack's shoulder, looking him a little mournfully in the eyes.

"We trained together for years. And she taught me everything I know. How to lead. How to fight. How to think. And she knows me even better than I know myself. Her comrades have come for us, and they know who I am. She has to know I'm coming." Jack clenched his fists tight. "The woman that I knew wouldn't do this. Steal weapons like those and turn them over to an enemy government. It's unthinkable. But she did. She even leveled Tselino with one of them. I... I can't wrap my head around it. We didn't really talk much about ideals, or politics. But she told me once that a soldier has to have loyalty to the very end. That it was what defined a soldier."

"I just want to ask her why she did it. What made her change sides. But I don't think I'll ever get the chance. I don't know what stories about Hart you've heard, but they don't do her justice. She could whip the lowest rabble into a firm and orderly formation with her force of personality alone. And fighting her is... She has thirty years of combat experience on any of us, and its like time forgot to slow her down. I've never taken a match off of her when we training together. Never even got close." Jack stopped, exhaled fully, and took a deep breath before continuing.

"Sorry. I don't want to psych you out. I haven't seen her in years, and even without her tutelage, I've progressed since then. And time can't let her be forever. And even if it can... I can't. We're the only ones who can stop another War of Annihilation. So we have to do it. Failure isn't an option."

"It's... complicated. I probably won't get the chance to see her again, unfortunately. But. Better to focus on happier things. Or at least more relevant things. It seems that our enemies have a better sense of us than we would like... I should talk to Jack... But he's a bit busy it looks like."

[Sirus]

: "I...appreciate it, I guess. If that's all, I need to check on Skar."

[I_Like_Pi]

"Hmm. Well, I'd like to offer you some encouragement, but without knowing anything about the situation I fear it wouldn't mean much. Regardless, hang in there and what not. As long as you can survive there's a chance you'll meet again."

"Yes, it is quite annoying to have an enemy that knows you. Regardless, they're running out of former war heroes to throw at us. It won't be long before Hart has to face us herself. and I should probably talk with Jack soon as well, though it's not really that important of a topic."

[Powder Miner]

Lucette was silent for several moments, looking down, before she finally spoke, seizing onto one of the things Jack had said.
:"Failure... is not an option."
:"That's something I understand. That's something I have left from my family. If there's anything I'm still confident in it's that"
:"We won't fail, Jack. We can't. Not with a duty like this. Some duties are just too great, too important to be failed, and if one ever was, it was this."
:"And we haven't so far, right? Things might... they might be... they might be hard, but. We haven't given up the ghost yet, right? And they were supposed to be unstoppable war heroes too."

Jack nodded, more to himself than to Lucette. "That's right. No one is unstoppable. We can win." He focused on Lucette again. "My past concerning Hart is strictly need to know. And no one else on the mission does. Understood?"

[Powder Miner]

:"Understood. I won't breathe a word of it to anyone - and you should be able to trust me, of anyone, about that."
:"...but why tell me, then? I didn't need to know either, did I? Did you... just need me to talk to you about it?"
