Tiruin, the open door is the door to the oven. You put Bone onthe floor next to teh oven, opened the oven door, and cranked up the heat.

You Strip them of their wet clothing, replace it with a heap of towels and table settings you find in the kitchen, and then turn the oven on full blast with the door open.
I...err >_> Yeah. That's a thing x_x
When people said 'door', and when I read 'oven', I thought those burners on the stove, and the door to the kitchen :v And wow how did I forget that despite knowing how to cook. Oops. I did not think ovendoor.
._.
T-thank you.

That oven still looks like the ovens we have here.
And thanks for the humor. :P

So let's see...we lack any intel on why we were attacked, or how. Anyone check off the rails of either side of the ship? Spot a tiny ship or something?
I've edited my post now that I'm not that sleep deprived.

Ed looked over the side some time ago. there were bits of what looked like trash floating in the water, almost as if the Nazis had used inflatable boats to approach, and destroyed them when they got on board. He didn't get a good look though.

...Since the corridor to our area was where the Nazis were, maybe that means they're planning to take over the whole ship? o_O
Perhaps this wasn't a surgical strike but a test of a weapon instead (hence why they didn't...kill the General. Probably 'oh three random dudes in the comms room! FREEZE!') or something.

I'm of the feeling, and had been since Bob/Strider03 found the General and you blasted the Nazis (and Tala too, but she's too busy focusing on healing for me to IC express it), that we're a pawn in a field testing of a weapon here. Meaning they're also sending in troops of their own to field test survivability or otherwise.

Cheers to you and others in wrecking their ops though. :3
Also try the radios now. I would tell that to others but only Bob is with me.

Well, since Bob has a radio, we can try broadcasting to them perhaps. . .
Also, I kind of forgot the main reason I brought Bob here was to test the static in the radio room/see if anything weird is going on there.

And by God, was she going to use it.

I'm tempted to level up a skill or two. I could get language and interrogation. Combined with Ed's camouflage skill, he could infiltrate as a German (I even have that Nazi uniform for bonus points)

could level up senses to level 2 instead, or boost camo, operator or demolitions. For that last one, I've been holding out for one of the explosive related promotions, but man are they expensive. One needs to survive like twelve mission objectives to get one of them - or contribute meaningfully in a few additional ways.

Any suggestions?

Quote from: Tiruin
((Maybe it's more my perspective >_< I'm thinking about vehicles and other utility skills. Alice's Planes could apply to Cars and other vehicles at +1 maybe, only if she has +3 in that skill? I'm inexperienced. What was going in my mind was the cross-overs for categories grouped in the spoiler; those grouped skills, at +3, give other skills in the same batch, a +1.))

((I get what you're trying to do here, but I don't think it's a good solution.  Most plainly, having a +1 in anything is near meaningless; it upgrades successes (4s) to crits (5s).  Most of the time those don't have any practical difference.

Perhaps it could be significant if the +1 was in addition to base skill, so +3 in plane with +2 in car and tank means you effectively have +3 in all three skills... but this still doesn't solve the actual issue of specialists having nothing to do when their specialties aren't required, because then that person can't do anything reliably except drive.

A decent solution would be to generalize skills like Plane, making it "driver" or something that affects all vehicles, so that vehicle operators are always useful as long as there's a vehicle (which is still rarer than "scoped rifles" or "camoflage" being useful).  Other skill groups that might be good to fuse are Languages/Interrogation, and Operator/Mechanic/~maybetraps.
Camoflage also isn't versatile enough, you should be able to roll it for all other skills with a slight penalty.  You're tricking the universe into believing you're good at the thing.

...Anyway, this is forgetting that +0 is still RTD, which has ~50% success rate.  Even if you have no skills whatsoever, you can still be useful if you're just cautious.))
I feel like that solution would be overcombining and oversimplification, leading to having one or two skillsets be frustratingly overpowered as in DIG (and, of course, ER and OL).

That said, I agree that many specialized skills, especially such as planes, boat, and interrogation, are quite limited in terms of actual gameplay value, mostly due ot the setting. But all those skills are specializations, and people train heavily in such things before using them in the real world, to the expense of other skills (with the exception of automotives, unless we are talking racers or offroading).

Plane skill is mostly useful either in single player mode, or with a group of other player pilots, or flying the flying fortresses as in that test game we did on r20 last year. Perhaps that was what PW had in mind with the two flying options for this mission?

I think a possible solution would simply be to label certain skills in a separate group as "specializations." You take a spec at the expense of two standard skills, and accept that this character has a niche role - it's what I did with mechanic. (or, conversely, each character gets one "spec" slot for one of those skills, so everyone has a single situational strength, which useless in most other contexts.)

maybe eliminate the operator and automobile skills and allow players with those skills to move their points, if it's that big an issue, but I don't think merging mechanic and traps skill is wise, really, nor adding explosives to that grouping. I've gotten a lot of use out of traps skill and explosives skill, for instance, so each of those skills is of value in it's own right -though hopefully neither are of use on this mission :P (actually, traps probably will be, since we are dealing with spies who probably have tripwires and other alarm mechanisms, at the very least).

I'd have both specialized skills, like "plane", and general skills, like "vehicle". Both cost the same, but the more specialized one is generally more potent, and the generalized one applicable to more situations. That way you can have both people cripplingly overspecialized in shooting dudes from far away through a scope and people decently trained with any gun they pick up.
Dunno why you'd make Specializations more expensive than regular skills, oz, when they have a narrower focus.

Because specializing in something requires focusing on that thing to the expense of other things. But note that I also have the option in there to have a "free" slot for a specializaton that does not reduce one's general skills, because I recognize that in some games, charging more for a spec doesn't add to the fun.

Reading this up, I'm finding myself agreeing with these arguments. I was working on the impression as if skills equal our actual capability (because I noticed I was partially biased out of experiences with mundane actions where people who were either briefed beforehand would know, or at least take caution to enact, fail horribly for themselves or with others because of a roll of dice in basic tasks), then it would also reasonably apply to others. That was until I read the past missions and noticed our 'incompetence' levels were drastically not present in how rolls were represented.

Although there was also the idea of a 'specialization slot' for our characters, meaning a free skill slot where we can name a skill or theme as our specialization and receive less GLORY costs to boost it, or anything past the first comma in this sentence as an applicable suggestion too. :P

aaaaaaaaand our first post is a guy marching right in and demanding if anyone's seen anything 'suspicious.'

There goes the element of surprise.
There goes coordination.
There goes any attempt to plan this out beforehand.

pose as a tabloid editor. Go ask about for good deals on newsstock and ink,  and ask for contacts with good journalists with more commitment to entertainment (or money) than to reliability.

I feel like nothing is lost at this point since it would be disheart...ful? for piecewise to issue that just because people did stuff at this point :P

And acting as individual agents are pretty good :3 In the streets of London, foreshadowing things is a good thing. All we need is info--how to gain it is our first obstacle. Hope y'all don't mind Tala speaking about stuff 'pre' mission.

Otherwise, I'm requisitioning 'London journalist' outfits and recycled garb, alongside a van with radio interception equipment (or at least jamming equipment, or something to enable us to listen in on things)--that van's driving area will be requisitioned to be modeled like an airplane, so Alice can be our designated driver! :B Oh, also evidence of the propaganda so we'll at least know HOW it looks like and what's being written (unless I misunderstood something .-.)

What we need, though, and to summarize what my IC post will be pre-mission, is to know the routes of delivery and cargo vehicles; commonly, illegal or 'barely legal' operations and facilities operate in between twilight and early morning. Spreading out at this stage, since it doesn't seem like there's a time limit other than 'special ops team in the zone' other than people's patience, is also a good idea as nothing points to the propaganda operations being in anyway aware of our existence. We're just cops in...um, plainclothes?

Tala's backstory has her assuming there's a mole, as scarcely possible as that may be--but the actions thus far (like Ozarck getting drunk out) is also okay :P I'm wondering if our language aficionados can dress up as fellows who are interested in the propaganda gig. HOWEVER the mention of counterfeiters does bring up the idea that this is more than a very superficial ploy; it can pretty much be a front, with an outgoing connection somewhere. And regardless, we DO need a method of transportation. :P

Personally, I'll just bring up suggestions, as everyone is free to do what they want (but there should be some degree of cohesion). I'm wondering if we can sneak in our own agent in their area, wiretap him or her, and that person should essentially be an improviser. Since this is emphasized to be a nonlethal mission (or at least, we can use controlled explosives and blame it on a gas pipe leak fire), the only problem is when there's a firefight or collateral damage. Anything else is reasonable and okay. No damage to civilian property that is inexplicable, no openly shooting people.

Tiruin, to answer a question you asked in the IC thread: there is an IRC still running from the E_R days. It's not specifically to discuss PW related things, but that does happen there. typically you might find Devastator, Egan, syvarris, midnight_jaguar, Radio_Controlled, Nikitian, Piecewise and myself on there. Dev (and Aoshima_Michio) keep their accounts logged in whether they are active or not, but the rest of us come and go. I think dev and egan are the ones i encounter most often these days.

The channel's name is einsteinianroullette. any IRC client should get you there. I use mibbit: http://widget01.mibbit.com/?settings=d4a2e2317b84e8897df0b736464a8ee4&server=mibbit.darkmyst.org&channel=%23einsteinianroulette. I believe the others consider mibbit to be one of the less reliable and functional clients, but i'm too lazy to change it.

I tend to be on early morning US time (8 Am Eastern/1PM GMT) and on weekends throughout the night (~3AM-3PM GMT)

The others could give yo ubetter information though - I'm not as frequent a visitor as some.
