Then why do it?

Honestly though, that DOES seem like an insanely coincidental method of blow up the base. Seems like a way to have something bad happen to us because some of us didn't want to explode.

By the way, if that place is close enough to the munitions bunker that Milo tossed the bomb into it so quickly, it would've gone up as well, turning it into a fuel-air bomb with even more fragmentation, had the bomb been in the bunker.

Might I recommend NOT taking high-explosive handouts from this particular GM? He has a reputation for lethality to uphold, let's NOT help him with it, alright?

Accidentally causing massive horrific destruction after trying to prevent minor horrific destruction, killing more teammates in the process than the enemy could ever hope to manage?

Yep, seems about par for the course for a pw game.

Actually it wouldn't have been minor, the fuel dump would've exploded anyway. Unless, of course, PW just wanted to kill us all anyway, in which case not only did he succeed but logic and reason have fled the field.

Not that there was much of that here anyway, as the (Taser?) rifles I got shot with show. Apparently, the laws of physics are dead.

Well, that and the laws of shooter games. YOU CAN'T KILL THE PROTAGONIST LIKE THAT!

You can see the doors, they're actually facing you directly, and they are open, just a bit. It looks like, judging by the abandoned loading cart next to the doors, that they were loading muitions onto a plane when the bombing run started and just ran off to attend to more important matters.

I think this belongs here:

Greetings. My name is Brigadier General Franklin S. Bone. And from now till this war is won, or they return our remains to our respective mothers, you belong to me. This is the 888th Brigade; we handle the jobs that no one else can. Or more often, the jobs no one else wants. We don't follow the standard chain of command, we don't follow the standard brigade setup, and we don't follow someone else into battle. We are the first boots on the beach, the first men through the breach, and the only mad sons of bitches ready, willing, and able to go anywhere and do anything at a moment's notice.  Some of you here are blind patriots with a hatred for Hitler and the Nazis that borders on the fetishistic. Some of you are specialists, plying your considerable skills. Some of you are madmen, idiots, or trouble makers that pissed off some commander and got dumped here to die. And die many of you will.

I will not lie to you: there is no fame nor glory here. Our actions are secret, by and large, the sort of thing no one will ever know of. And I won't try to con you into the vain hope of trading your life for some tin medal. I offer you only this: Without men like you, we will lose this war and the world will be plunged into chaos. Carry that in your hearts and walk forward into hell with no regrets!

And leave your dogtags at the door.  If I can't identify your body, I don't care. And if I CAN, then you better still be shooting at some Krauts. The only way out of my brigade is when they ship you home in a shoe box!

I was aware that the fuel depot would likely be destroyed by Ed's bomb either way.

This is one of the reasons I asked a few posts back if you had played ER or other PW games. Because PW games have a certain rhythm and style, and for the unprepared, (as I was upon Joining ER) this can be disconcerting.

The other reason was because there are a lot of PW veterans in this game. Veterans who are, by and large, friendly, helpful, and intelligent. People worth giving attention to.

I'd regret adding another thread to my newbox, but Ozarck--outlining that there was stated 'people die', doesn't cover the fact that nobody was warned IC about what was going on especially about the short fuse. :P

While we didn't expect that outcome...losing a character to something like that just sucks. And that's the only time I'll ever say that word.

Communication helps. -_-

I'm tempted to stick around a while and try to load up the rest of the shells. Thoughts?

Piecewise' post on the uses of Glory

Tiruin, you were welcome to weigh in on that before Ed set the bomb. I was never opposed to editing that action. Hell, my stated action had a veto built right in.
Besides, I was merely pointing out that Piecewise is not a malicious GM who is out to get his players somehow. Instead, he is merely a GM who makes games in which lethality plays a large role. In other words, I wasn't defending my or Ed's actions here. I was saying that there is no point blaming the GM for the way things turned out.

*Shrug* I cannot help lack of in character coordination or communication.

Bombs causing things to blow up hardly seems like a very big leap in logic.

My players from ER will tell you that is a lie.

Listen guys, I'm not out to railroad anyone into death. True, I covered this base in things that explode and lots of angry Nazis, but I had no specific plan for any of it.  My old ER missions are a perfect example of how I just set up an area and let people do stuff in it. My second mission  (Which incidentally also ended in a giant explosion that killed a large number of people) was a big complex map with lots of stuff to see but the players just blew it up and skipped 90% of the mission. And that's fine.  Hell, the last large bit of ER was completely different from how I envisioned it. I'm not out to kill anyone or cause any more havoc than the dice and player actions decree.  But you should know I do some rolls in the background, mostly because I just grab a d6 and say "Ok so...how big is this gonna explode?" There's no rule to it, it's just a way to handle random actions. Similarly, I'll hide some rolls if showing them would completely undermine the purpose of them. For instance, If someone searches for a trap and gets a failing roll, I won't tell them its a failure. I'll just say they don't see anything. Because If I show it and say they see nothing, its a pretty good indication that there is something around there, and people will act differently.

I'll play the Dev here and say that none of ER's real protagonists died, possibly excepting Jim who had to commit suicide because there was nothing powerful enough to defeat him in glorious battle.

You just reminded me of the "I think I failed a spot check" line from the beginning of Order of the Stick.

Nah, I'm with PW here.  ER was a lot less lethal in general, but it wasn't 'the protagonists' that did it, it applied to everyone.

Remember, I had to beg PW to kill Leo because he couldn't manage to kill himself with a nuke, and he most certainly wasn't one of the protagonists.
