MICA

The mica group of sheet silicate minerals includes several closely related materials having highly perfect basal cleavage. All are monoclinic with a tendency towards pseudo-hexagonal crystals and are similar in chemical composition. The highly perfect cleavage, which is the most prominent characteristic of mica, is explained by the hexagonal sheet-like arrangement of its atoms.
The word "mica" is thought to be derived from the Latin word micare, to glitter, in reference to the brilliant appearance of this mineral (especially when in small scales). Mica has a lamellar form with a shiny luster.
Someone took a huge bite out of that mica rock. XD

Sorry if this has been said before, but its quite interesting. Granite is very hard, and as such is hard to cut, requiring a strong blade and lots of time but someone, the Egyptians I think, discovered that a copper blade, although soft, works well. The reason being that because it is so soft the harder parts of the granite embed themselves into the edge of the blade, forming a self hardening edge.

Fascinating.
I imagine that dwarves' picks gain a similar property due to their being used to groom one's beard.

I wonder if the realism of the game will be updated at some point to make most of the stones we use for building actually suck for construction.
