So what all can you use power for? so far I'm just kind of aware of screw pumps, but what other options are there, I'm not quite to the point that I'm going to make a mechanized fort, but i'm curious about this now  :)

I think currently there are 3 applications: pumps, mills and traps.

For a rotating millstone you naturally require power.

I hear an active, engaged gearbox is very deadly, but dunno if I'd go as far as consider that a valid trap contraption.

Drop enemies into a grinding pit.

I have to try that now!

Yeah, but what about how in the old version weapons traps didn't harm your dwarves?

But that same gear could activate another gear attached to a pertetual motion machine, complete with a water sensing pressure plate that is linked to 100 menacing spikes, located strategically around you entire map, saving you the hardships of repeating a lever pull. (of course, q,a,P, is alot simpler than my route, but I can never find a reliable dwarf to repeat a pull when elfs show up. Ergo, I make 2 water power plants, attached to a water relay and transfer plan that can automatically independently run at least 12 different independent traptastic tasks at once. It takes a few years to manufacture it tho, =)

Toady wants to make active gears hurt things, but they don't as of now.
