Waterpark... can it be done?
« on: April 20, 2008, 10:55:00 pm »

Well, I'd like to embark on a fun project: making a waterpark. Now, I have to wonder: I can make the slides, but can anyone float on them?

So, can I send a dwarf down a water chute in a barrel? Do barrels even float?

Im afraid not =[ I had designed a cool water transport system for puting soilders where you need them fast, but I found out water dosn't push dwarves..only items.

:(  This would be a good feature to add in later *hint hint Toady*

Oh well. I'll find something else to build. Thanks.

Also, barrels don't float.  In fact, nothing floats.

They're like bins - A way to cheaply transport useless trade goods until you destroy them!

Once Hobbits are added into the game, then well see. . .

Just kidding. A waterpark is possible, but no one can ride it.

Floating stuff will probably be added at the same time as boats.

Odd. I swear water pushes adventurers in adventure mode, so I thought it would work on dwarves, too.

It DOES, I once went to a half submerged base (someone forgot to board up that hole they dug to help with a possesed craftdwarf's execution), walked 1 square into the water, got swept away into a channel (I had holes in the floor, for um... aesthesic value?) and landed onto a spike :(. Yup, very messy.

This was in an older version... around 6 months old... But there hasn't been anything mentioned in the Change Log though about not being swept away by the water... Maybe affected by the "swimming" skill?
