Seed 373668154: Red Sand, tons of limestone & magnetite, lava, cave river, demons, chasm, trees, plants. The only thing my perfect start is missing is skeletal & zombie animals.... (and maybe a cave or two)

I don't think a 6x6 with those features is that uncommon.  Now if it was 4x4 or 3x4 I'd be interested.

Is this a 33g seed?

I have a question. How come when I generate a world using that seed and all other options default, the world comes up completely different?
Yes, I am using 33g

He used a custom name.

Couldn't say.  It works for me.  And I did just what you did, specify seed, leave everything else default, using 33g.

Check if you made a typo, that's all I can think of.

custom names don't affect world generation anymore...

Odd. I can almost guarantee it wasn't a typo; this is the second time I have attempted to generate the world and neither time got this world. I also took a screenie of the typed-in seed to check after the world was generated, it matched this thread's title and the OP. I'll try with a fresh install of 33g to see if that makes a difference.

I dunno if this affects things, but do you have any mods in play Skanky?

I guess I have a specific test I can run to see if mods affect gameplay. I just generate one of the zero reject worlds, take out prehistoria, then generate the same world. I think I'll do that so I'm not just randomly speculating.

Didn't we notice a difference in seeding between operating systems, even Windows XP SP1 versus Windows XP SP2? Or was that entirely speculative?

The only things I have changed are the init.txt and the standard_reactions file. The OS thing may be the difference - I'm running Vista home premium.

As a recent upheader to vista I can confirm that is the reason.  This (and no other reason so far, which is odd because vista gets bashed so often) is the only reason I've thought of going back to XP

That really shouldn't be true.  Toady cooks his own random numbers.

Could you try this seed and report if you get the same or different world.
