What to do with a polar bear?

I've trapped a polar bear and while it would be nice to make a zoo out of it, I'm also thinking of taming it and letting one of my dwarves have it.  It's not named or anything.  Will it be a problem once I tame it and let it go?

Nope, it's totally safe.

I'd drop it down a 30 level high shaft if I had one though, just to show how much I hate them.

It won't attack any of your dwarves, as long as it hasn't killed one before it was captured and tamed.

I think I've seen at least one other fort that has a tamed bear tied up at the entrance to massacre kobolds, so it should be fine.  Probably.

Is it a male or female polar bear?

If the latter, it may spontaneously reproduce with a male polar bear half a map away, giving you a cub.

Also, Polar Bears have a high pet value. Next time I play a cold map, my goal will be a fort full of _tame_ polar bears, with each dwarf (or at least the important ones) having their own pet bear bodyguard.
