Should've named it Felix.

But then again, dwarven vocabulary doesn't have the word Felix, does it?

Actually, I just deleted that world. Whoops....but here's a (very)rough diagram in miniature size(i.e. 5x5 dining room).

code:

Top floor(water source) Z
WWWWWWW
WWWWWWW
WWWWWWW
~~~CWWW (C = channel, W = wall, ~ equals water on this level)
WWWWWWW
WWWWWWW
WWWWWWW
code:
Z-1 (approximately even water distribution)
CCCCCCC
C.....C
C.W.W.C
C.....C   (water lands in centre of this room)
C.W.W.C
C.....C
CCCCCCC
code:
CCCCCCC
C..t..C
C.wcw.C
Ctc>ctC (dining room)
C.wcw.C (w=well, c=chair, t=table, >=downstairs)
C..t..C (my actual room was 11x11 and fit a lot more furniture)
CCCCCCC
code:
CCCCCCCW
CWWWWW.W
CWC.CW.W (room above exit...allows eastern exit in next level)
CW.X.W.W (X = up/downstairs)
CWC.CW.W (have shown where right-hand wall goes)
CWWWWW.W
CCCCCCCW
code:
CCCCCCC
CWWWWWWW
CWC.C... (dwarf entrance/exit to east.
code:
W..C.C..W (drainage level....channels fill so wells)
W.......W (always work, then water overflows and)
W..C.C..W (O drains north to chasm or back to river)
No dogs.
Cats only.
If you find any Cat's Eyes, use them as the cat's... eyes...
You got a cat "model" in mind?
Use the front legs as paths for your magma workers to go down so you don't have to pump magma or anything. Have their rooms near the top and have the forges at the feet.
For the mouth, trap it with alternating stonefall and weapon traps (Cage traps will work, but this will look more "toothy".) Put a second layer on top for added effect.
I dunno, you could put seige engines at the cat's feet. Placed right, ballista look very "claw"ish.
I cannot wait to see this in the 3Dwarf visualizer when you're done.
Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.
By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.
I'm seesawing between "Standing Cat" and the more sphynx-looking "Sitting Cat". Having the head down by the river lapping up water means the latter would look less awkward, as I'd prefer a level torso for simplicities sake.
On the other hand, standing legs are easier to design, being straight and all.
ahah!.....Of course. I make a standing cat PLUS a cat dish that pumps water up to its head level. The fisherdwarves can then run around the rim of the dish, leaving the tongue free as the internal water source or alternatively a drawbridge to the waterdish.
Of course this means I either have to add entrances to the dish for the trade depot/arriving dwarves, or work that into the legs somewhere. I like the drawbridge tongue, which would fit with a dish-entry, but that would make the lever/floodgate/catpee engine difficult if the water is sourced from the dish as well.
Any thoughts?
I was under the initial impression that the cat would just be a dramatic entrance/statue/home for the nobles, but now I get the impression you're looking to make the (near) entire fortress inside that cat. Is this the case?
$Ambitious. A grand vision, that. I have to scratch a few suggestions off the list then. Perhaps I'll come up with replacements for the ones I haven't mentioned yet. I doubt I'll have anything more worth sharing though I would be interested in seeing this when completed.
If any immigrants come with dogs, I suggest you butcher them immediately, and put the dog-skull under-paw.
I recommend keeping on good terms with the elves. If you can get tame jaguars, cheetahs, etc..
The military should be concentrated in the front paws. Think Paws of NOD.
One fatal flaw to your design.
Crazy killer Kobold clowns carrying catnip. Catastrophic!
Maybe, if you were doing a Sphinx style cat, you could make the water bowl a pyramid instead of a bowl? That way, you could add steps or something like that.
A sphinx styled cat would be easier. You can also make the entrance coming out of its Ass. Either way, should be one hell of a project. Good Luck
Had another idea today to simplify/improve the project design...
What if I make a standing cat, facing a cliff? Then the cat's tongue can act as a drawbridge across the top of the waterfall that I'd create flowing down the cliff, between the cat's legs.
Possibly do a two-level drawbridge attached to the same lever that supplies water inside the fortress...so when the drawbridge is down, the cat will pee, and will stop when the drawbridge is raised.
Ugh....
Waterfall
Waterfall
Waterfall
Cat
Waterfall
Waterfall
Nah. For just a little effort more you could have
code:
front view:
         wf
         wf
         wf
 river/cat
wf
wf
wf
In other words, your 'cat bowl' idea? Use it to give your dwarves a secure, isolated fishing/drinking platform. Make the bowl deep (reservoir, lake!) with a few shafts near the bottom leading into your fort to allow yout to put in wells if you need.
