lol... from the last few posts, I gather the following "truths"

Markdwarves: It doesn't take brains to shoot.

Champions: Either they are too stupid to die, or only stupid dwarves end up as champions.  Maybe the intelligent dwarves are the ones that put the stupid dwarves between them and the enemies?

As you journey to the center of the world, feel free to read the death announcements of those dwarves that suffer your neglect.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

I've just hit 65 dwarves (23 migrants lol) and my current military force consists of 2 wrestlers (my legendary miners), 4 proficient wrestlers (peasants in plate with shields and starting spear training), 6 proficient wresters (peasants in chain with shields and starting sword/axe training) 3 marksdwarves (rangers who are now constantly in the archery range). Is this a sufficent force to deal with innitial seiges?

Also, no injuries so far and they are all training with steel/iron armor, steel/wooden shields (legendary carpenter keeps making epic wood shields) and sparing with steel weapons. Umm, since I use my fighting force for hauling as well (I swap the squads between peasants and soldiers) if I assign a captain of the guard can I also assign guards? Or are they drafted by the captain? In either case, will I lose the ability to have them as off duty haulers? Ty.

If the fortress guard has been started you can draft any dwarf into the guard. Be warned that leaving the guard causes a drop in happiness.

Will the guards train/arm themselves with what is set out on the military screen? My Cpt.o.t.G is carrying around his steel warhammer, but I'm not sure if thats cause I took him straight from the military to his new found position of power.

I don't think he has beaten anyone yet but I have a dwarf with a broken right knee (I presume from letting 6 new peasants begin training with steel maces haha).

Also, folks, in my opinion training wrestling doesn't really help reduce injury. This is because although, yes, wrestling makes them better dodgers, it also gives attribute gains. So when you then arm them with swords, spears, etc., then they are stronger but still unskilled with that weapon. Unless the dwarves only get tough attribute bonuses on their wrestling gains I think the good\bad cancel each other out. Still worth doing IMO because it'll still make them more prepared to face real enemies.</STRONG>

The point isn't to make them wrestlers, it's that wrestling at low levels doesn't do serious injury, and it trains their armor and shield skills, which helps protect them from the horrible sparring injuries. And if they lose a weapon or get grappled, the wrestling skill helps then.

I agree with the precedent statement. All my warriors been trained in wrestling with a full iron plate suit and shield at first, and when they got up to proeficient I switched them to their main weapon which is also made of iron. Only yellow injuries ever occured, and very rarely.
