DF File hosting
« on: January 21, 2008, 02:19:00 pm »

So, being the nice person I am, I have some hosting, with a lot of free space, and am testing the want for a file hosting server for things like:

Game Client
-Current Version
-Past Versions

Save games/Worlds
Tilesets
Seeds
Graphic Sets
Mods
Utilties

Any interest?

edit: added request.

I'd like if the utilities and the like were hosted on a not-so-work-unsafe place.

I'd be happy to host mine elsewhere than yourfilehost.com.  But I haven't had any suggestions as to where.

My concern is that I want control of the files myself -- I don't want to liase with the site admin to get things uploaded.

I would definitely appreciate this, most of the free filehosts are a pain to use... either by deleting your files, restricting certain countries from downloading, download limits, queues, nws ads...

:\

Wow, I was just (over the past couple of weeks) working on setting up a public DF file hosting site myself.  :o
I have another such game file hosting site with more traffic than this one would have, and plenty of free space and bandwidth. Lacota, I'll message you to discuss maybe working together on such a site since there's no need for two such DF file hosting sites.

Just thought of something - it'd be nice if we could also upload BMP, save users  the extra step on converting to/from PNG

Would it really?

192 KB vs 21.7 KB... how significant is that nowadays?

150 MB if 1000 people download the file.

Eh, still a drop in the bucket... I believe Core Xii was thinking of something like a full sized 16x16 tile copy of a map in BMP format, which I would hope nobody would post (especially since Toady even includes a BMP->PNG tool with DF).  :p
