I play another game called Dominions, and someone mentioned DF on their forum. They said DF was awesome and FREE. So I checked it out, and now have no life to speak of. Very glad to have found it.

I heard about DF through Something Awful.

I think it was some academic paper - probably one of those discussions about how to study games (narratology vs ludology?)

Then saw the article on the german website Telepolis, which had links both to Boatmurdered and to this web site.

I've been addicted to games since 1986, I've got five (albeit badly equipped) Level 70 chars in WoW, ... ... - but no other game had me hooked that badly

I love this game so much that whenever I run into someone I haven't seen in awhile the second thing I ask them is if they have heard of DF.  The first thing I ask them is why I haven't seen them in X number of months/years what-have-you.

Somebody on a chatroom I frequent was away for a long time and when he came back he said it was because of Dwarf Fortress, I asked him how easy it was to learn, he said very very hard, and since then I've been hooked!

The games for windows article looked cool, so i came to check it out. (on wikipedia, see the 3rd page, thats what looked the coolest.)

Yeah, i know that was even before 3dness, but i still fell like a new player.

DF was featured in a pc gaming magazine that i get sometimes, it got a 2 page thing on it with pics etc. Thats what got me into it.

Learned about it while looking up a fix for some windows bug. Long time ago, maybe 3 or 4 years. I was originally a player of Armok, and went to Df after it was abandoned. Been playing since and consider myself a Grizzled Veteran of DF.
