"Hmm. That's not a lot to go on."

Henry rubbed her chin.

"I don't want to promise a miracle cure or anything, but when we get to Fort Ashton I'll see what supplies we have available and I'll try a few things."

[SOLDIER First]

Galen directs Ruth to Sybella, and then goes back to attempting to decipher her tome.


"That’s fine. If it makes him feel even just a little bit better, I’ll be happy.”

“Hey, by the way... Did any of those bandits have a sword on them? A really nice-looking one?”

"I didn't see any swords, sorry. You're welcome to search the bodies if you want, though."

Aiesha sidled up to Galen's side, watching him study the text. As a matter of fact, she was pretty familiar with it, which meant... "So, what school of magic do you work with? Clearly not anima, since this's a pretty basic tome from the school."

[SOLDIER First]

Galen gives Aiesha a very short and nervous glance, but seems relieved at her question.

”Ancient magic. I learned most of it from my grandpa. He’s so good with it he can summon spirits! A whole person, out of nothing but magic! Isn’t that amazing?”

Aiesha didn't respond for a moment. Neither of her parents had ever described anything like that to her. "Uh, yeah, that's uh... That's pretty incredible. So do you just have a casual interest in other schools or are you interested in branching out?"

[SOLDIER First]

”Well... I’d like to try and learn the other schools, but I just couldn’t get into them. Anima magic is too confusing, and Light magic... Um, it doesn’t do anything for me. I tried it before but all of my spells seem to fizzle.”

“I don’t mind much, though. Ancient magic feels better, do you know what I mean? My grandpa said you just have to pick what feels right for you, so I did.”

You just have to pick what feels right for you. Even if it's nothing. Aiesha sighed. "Yeah, whatever works for you, that's what's important." Aiesha looked over to Ruth and Sybella. "You two finished yet?"

[SOLDIER First]

”What do you use, then? I don’t see a sword on you. Are you a scholar? ...Maybe an alchemist?”

Aiesha casually flipped up a knife that she kept concealed in her belt, catching the tip between her thumb and fore-finger. "I work with sharps. I also have some skill with stuck locks, as well as... Acquisition? I guess? My interest in magic is recreational only, sorry to say." Aiesha fiddled with the knife for a moment more before putting it back.

[SOLDIER First]

”...I see.”

“I don’t mean to imply anything, miss, but the Shields aren’t very welcoming towards people who like to acquire things that aren’t theirs.”

"I don't take things that aren't rightfully mine!" Aiesha said hotly, brushing some of her hair back. "Unless of course the person I'm taking from isn't the rightful owner."

[SOLDIER First]

”Okay, I understand. You can’t be too careful around here. I don’t mean to seem accusational.”

"Are things really that bad around here? I kind of assumed that young girls getting kidnapped was more of an outlier."

[SOLDIER First]

”Not around Verduuni, no. Just in general. But I think you probably knew that already.”
