Squad Brenhart stops where they are and lowers their weapons with quiet sighs of relief. The ones still standing go about helping both their own and the fallen members of Squad Eckert back onto their feet.

"Squad Brenhart clearly had you all beat. No reason to drag it out any longer, I say."


After everyone is done with their dirt naps, Colin personally approaches Ruth and pats her on the shoulder.

"Your squad did good, Ruth. I liked your strategy. Although when Galen and Henry ate it again it was pretty much over."

"We'd be happy to show you guys a few pointers later. Shields working together and all that?"

"Anyway, you can say what you want Colin but we lost because I didn't hold up my end when I needed to. I'll be over there if anyone needs me for anything."

If it had been a real battle, we all would have died because of me. I have to do better. 250 push-ups, no break. Then ten minutes of sprinting laps around the sparring yard. I'll figure out what next after that. Probably pull-ups.

Finding a quiet patch for herself a little ways off from the group, Henrietta started in on the push-ups.

"And tell her I'm sorry. I don't even know where that came from."


Meanwhile, Henry finds that someone is standing right in front of her, blocking out the sun. It's Galen.

"You seemed upset. Are you all right?"

Henry didn't even pause or look up.

"Thirty... No, I'm not. I'm pissed off at myself. I trained hard, and I've been through worse, and because I wasn't taking this seriously I got knocked out the first time I got hit. If that had been a real fight against bandits who intended to kill all of us, we all would have died, and it would have been my fault. If I can't do any better than that, I might as well just go home so I'm not in the way."
