Patch 1.20 is up.

Pls be true that the combat music issue is fixed. I've been playing without music for so long! Next is to bother them to fix the extremely loud thruster sounds. When rescuing a Cerberus I almost went deaf.

And..is it just me, or is there way more abandoned ships popping up in this game than previous ones (unless you had the whole X3TC/X3AP map filled with advanced sats)? I feel as ships sell for less as previous games, but it's still funny that my main activity is now queing orders for explorer ships and looking at the map to see if I can find any abandoned ships.

5 seconds is fine, some of them have a 10 minute intro/outro about it.

There are two things in the youtube interface that stand out: the video and the SUBSCRIBE button. Youtube advertises for you in every video. If a content creator cares about their channel they can make good content. Intros and outros and "like/subscribe" in every single video turns me off. I will actively down thumb and never look at their content again when I come across that.

I haven't really tried the game yet (only fiddle on menus) but am I the only one to regret the old UI ? I don't remember it being that much of a mess, and i really found the blue themed to give the game a great atmosphere. Most of the game was dark blue anyway, but it gave it identity. Now... this dark basic theme make me think i'm using some old backoffice management software, based on excel design. I don't like the new map as well. And even with using the AA setting before the last one (4x MSA i think, the 8x is too laggy) i don't find the game, inside station (game start), beautiful.

No comment about gameplay for now.

The new map is fine. I liked the old UI because I didn't have to memorize every keyboard shortcut but it would remind you what they were as you used the interface. Bouncing between games you tend to forget them. It feels like a lot of X4 has stuff hidden behind mouse clicks and half the keyboard is unused.

I missed the stream because of work, but also because I'm not much of a fan of streams TBH.

In regards to youtube videos, I don't mind when people tell you to like and subscribe, but what does get me is when they insist on having a face cam that 90% of the time is obscuring important parts of the game.

I'll check this Tobel guy out, thanks for the recommendation.

E: Oh, his audio level is crap. That's pretty annoying.

I'd say you're therefore either avoiding 90%+ of quality content creators or you're being hypocritical and giving a pass to whatever you happen to like.

You didn't miss the stream, stuff came up and I had to push it back. I was actually about to start :P

Ok, so trade deals only update when you have a satellite with vision of the station, or a ship fly by it every 5 hours. Makes me wonder if I should build a ship and have it update prices in every system...might be easier then launching a satellite at each station or cluster of stations.

- Can't match or control speed in travel mode which makes fleet formations iffy and interdicting traveling enemies annoying. Forget escorting anything in a sane fashion.

I just got my first escort mission, and the 'match speed' command worked perfectly during travel mode. Being able to control it manually would also be nice though.

I built myself a cheap scout ship and loaded it up with satellites and resource probes. Whenever I hit a new sector, I manually do a few long range scans with my main boat, then direct my scout to fly to each Question Mark, and drop a satellite in the middle of any clusters. Later I check back and have the scout drop resource probes as needed. It's much faster and easier than exploring everything manually.

now to imagine that npcs have to do the same... and seeing a minefield of satellites clustered around each station area XD

I avoid a lot of content on youtube, yes. It's a big place. I probably avoid closer to 99.9% of content creators. Tobel has 107 subscribers. He's tiny and he doesn't beg for subscriptions. (ProZD has 1.6 million subscribers and he doesn't ask for them every video. I also don't subscribe to his stuff.) There are very few people I will watch rarely and do not subscribe to that put their like/subscribe at the end of the video where I can just close the video before it gets that far. I actively delete things from my youtube history so I don't get more of the same. I have maybe 30 subscriptions and half of them post very rarely. Some haven't posted anything new in years.

I'm of the same mind. If I watch your video and I like it, I will subscribe so I can see more. No amount of begging changes the likelihood of me subscribing, only quality content does that. I don't mind a quick shout out for subscriptions but obnoxiously long intros and outros are a quick way to remove my interest. There's plenty of content out there.

Capped my first big ship. Paranid Odysseus destroyer, sold for 15 million. Now the Paranids are MAD at me and even place a HUGE patrol over at the gate connecting their territory to Argon. Weird enough, I don't see Argon or Paranid fighting.
Boarding has an actual interface now so you can set up boarding operations, and all the AI ships you command help on it and launch boarding pods in sync. The only issue to me is that I think missiles are rater overpowered, one-shotting M3s, and doesn't take too long to kill a M ship with them.

Now I'm setting up a Warehouse on the other side of the gate of Paranid territory, so I can land any ships I capture/board and all loot their ships and stations drop.

It feels a bit cheesy that we can sell ships from anywhere though. For folks that used to make most money from capturing and boarding, the worst part was bringing the prize back to a dock.

Well, I wanted to have fun with X4, but I've reached the point where I have to accept there's no more fun in it for me until they fix it. I had my fun exploring and figuring things out, but as it stand I've got little reason to play. Within hours pirates were dead, Xenons stopped attacking, I even went into xenon sectors and only found mines and 2 or 3 xenon cargo ships. All enemies were wiped out within hours. 30 hours in most of the economy has stagnated and only a handful of things are still profitable enough to be worth looking at. I'd love to build a fleet of big ships, but they have nothing to shoot at and this universe is pretty much boned on that front so my only option is to wait for patches and start a new save.

Aye, I get ya. I called a XL Builder that had 130 crew on it. Took me almost 40 min and 3 boarding ops (board it, fail, being more Marines). Funny that capping a Destroyer is much much easier.
But after all that, I too feel like a break to wait for mods/patches. I just want to see if I can wreck the Paranid first.  :P

Sounds like you need to replace the Xenon and cleanse the galaxy and make it your own :P

That's what I would do at least in that scenario...see if you can forge your own empire and territory.

Another good idea would be to make a monopoly on a product and run it like the mafia...destroy all the factories or production centers of a particular product and sell that product.

But none of that will be engaging for now. Faction fleets don't seem to be attacking each other, I've been attacking argon ships for a while and nobody's coming after me and even if they did the AI doesn't lead you with their guns so there's zero threat since they can't hit anything but a large ship. Stations and capital ships have a ton of health, I'd have to go through the trouble of affording and building up fleets and stations just for the sake of hitting a harmless punching bag. That's not an enticing prospect at the moment.

I had been siding with the Holy Order of the Pontifex, which almost everyone hates. HOP was supposedly waging a war against the Argon, but from what I could see I was the only one participating(and nobody was trying to stop me). Nobody was attacking them. I'd at least expect a lot of conflict between the two Paranid factions, but nothing.

Yeah, I think that's broken TBH. What I noticed is after I captured a HOP Destroyer and killed one of their advanced satellites - both close to the Flashpoint gate in True Sight, a huge patrol (response fleet) is now sitting around that location, with lots of M3/M4/M5s and at least 3 Destroyers.
When capturing a HOP Construction Vessel on Flashpoint, I noticed a HOP Destroyer and a couple fighters FINALLY came in Argon territory. For some reason, Argons don't open fire on HOP trading ships, and they seem allowed to land and trade, but the patrol fleet intercepted this incursion (that was definitely headed after me), and I jumped in to kill them off.

In the end, a lot of things feel unfinished. You can't transfer crew quickly between ships - have to contact each one individually - so you'll probably never get Elite Marines since it takes forever to transfer them anyway and probably worth using that time to hunt more ships.
Property screen definitely needs a filter, and it's a weird oversight.
NPCs don't seem to gain experience and no way to train them. All NPCs available to hire are 0-skill level, unless you hunt for better ones by landing on L/XL ships since you can find higher level crew there for some reason.
Xenon econ dies off early, by itself. Khaak doesn't seem to have bases or respawns. War doesn't really work. Pirates are very tame and unsuccesful, given the AI. Turrets are pretty borked. Missiles are ridiculously OP, and Capitals have a lot of them. You can carry few countermeasures and Point Defense turrets are pretty much useless.
AutoTraders are very stupid, even if you have a satellite network, they don't ever go to the most profitable trade - they also don't take in consideration the Storage capacity of the ship, so you could have a 10000 Storage freighter doing 900 Storage runs for hours.
Other than all of that and more, again I mention that I feel the world is too impersonal. This game, once the universe/war is fixed, could really make use of systems like the BBS/News boards and things like that.

Just like with X:R, I can see what they were going for, yet I have to ask why didn't they take some 3 months to 1 year to get it all ready. Sometimes I wonder if the devs don't just prefer to release the game on this state and fix it post-release, rather than making a lot of features and content and get exponentially more bugs as development goes by..no clue.

When it comes to Capitals having a ton of health, I'm glad a single fighter can't do anything to them, but flying a Frigate against a destroyer already enables you to kill it. In X:R they were much tougher, and more dangerous if you take out the fact that missiles are OP in X4.
When it comes to stations, I really hope Destroyers main guns can destroy them. Otherwise I'll be mad, since with frigates it would probably take ages to kill one.

I wonder where the game will go in 1-2 years from now, though. Because they could have the best from X3 and X:R.
I haven't gone deep in station building and goods production yet, but I got a Outpost designed super quickly and being able to set building materials prices, budget and hire a builder all from the same screen, along with NPC ships ACTUALLY delivering what you need is just great. If they hit it right in the other things as they did with this, it will get gud.
