Alana frowned, staring at the man. He was clearly no villager but neither did he seem to be a part of the others in this fight.

"What business do you have here? We are part of the military, here to put down this rebellion. If you are not a part of it, then give me your name and an explanation or else I will be forced to arrest you until we figure out who you are."

Leon stared at Elanore, then at the staff... He wasn't sure he could relinquish plunder without Cullen's permission, but then again the chest was in the same room he'd seen the girl stand at the entrance to.

"Do you think or are you sure?"

"Hey Alana, looks like things are winding down." He didn't see Pi from where he was, nor hear him.

With the battle over, Kristijan trotted on over to Cullen, to deliver his report. A somber and slight frown was on his face, not simply because of the fatigue and soreness from the day's events (he was exhausted, and after the many beatings he'd taken he certainly was in a bit of pain), but primarily because what he had to report was shameful.
:"Sir, unfortunately Leon and I were unable to close on the rebel, and he got away!"

An annoyed look briefly flitted across his face. His cloak shuffled slightly as he stealthily grabbed at something.

"Oh, you know, just hanging out. As for who I am, well, it'd be bad for me if a certain General saw me. So I'll be taking my leave if you don't mind."

With little warning the man disappeared in a flash of light. In his place, there was a valuable looking axe.

Alana gets One Armed!

"That is unfortunate it; however, we shouldn't dwell on his escape. As long as the other villager is here we should be able to get the information we need out of him and the mayor."

Elanore continues to be uncomfortable.

"It's... what I was told when they gave it to me. They said that the staff would link itself to my magic, or something..."

"What was your staff even doing inside that chest?" Leon asked as he returned the staff to Elanore.

Alana let out a huff of annoyance.

"Magicians! Stupid sneaky little... Still, this axe certainly.seems interesting... Ah, Kard, yes, I agree. There's nothing left down this way, so it's safe to head back to the rest. So tell me, what made you join their military?"

Now that the fighting was done, Matthias approached Malthe once again.

"Well, perhaps the circumstances aren't what I would have liked but it is still good to have a chance to catch up, now that all this... unpleasantness has died down. We'll have a few moments to talk before General Cullen finishes interrogating the mayor."

The mage had looked around at the dead rebels on the pause before 'unpleasantness', adjusting his cape somewhat huffily.

"Enough of that. How's the family been all these years?"

Kard looked away, the shame of what had actually happened rearing up again. "...I uh, lost a street fight. I was outnumbered but I was saved by a military man." Kard turned his gaze back onto Alana, his cocky smile starting to return. "He offered me a military job, so I took it. Been hard at work ever since."

"Joining because of another is a noble reason. I joined for the sake of honoring my father and our family's traditions myself. It is good to hear that there are still those who join for reasons other than money."

Kard shrugged. "Well it was about money when I first joined up. That and a roof. But that was then and this is now, and I'm a career man these days." Kard stepped closer to Alana, ready to push his luck. "So, are all the women in your family beautiful warriors, or are you more of an exception?"

"Hmm. Fair I suppose. So long as you are truly dedicated I suppose I can't hold it against you."

His next line of questioning made her frown, though internally she had a satisfied smile at the compliment.

"No. Well, I don't know about any of my ancestors really but currently it's me and my mother and she is as stereotypically a 'true noble lady' as you can possibly be. To say that she was displeased by my choosing to join the army would be about as understated as you can get."

Hardly the time to discuss family." Responding to Matthias' attempt at conversation with a small motion towards the few corpses in the room.
