As the recruits made the short trip to the mayor's house, Cullen called Leon down and to the front.

"Leon, I'm going to ask that until further notice you keep that gem to yourself. Do not allow anyone to take it from you, nor should you let anyone examine it. We'll talk more after we sort out whatever is waiting for us at the mayor's residence."

~Prologue X: Plight of the Love Birds~

The walk to the mayor's residence was much different from the earlier visit a mere hour ago. Now many, if not most, of the villagers lay dead on the streets after a failed attack on Cullen and his recruits. What little was left of the village population was, in addition to some full-fledged rebels, surely waiting to offer more resistance within the mayor's household. And what of the two survivors? What were they up to?

Earlier the guards had ushered Cullen and co. in, now they stood in their way with their weapons drawn.

"Rebel scum prepare to be crushed! Villagers, toss aside your weapons and surrender or suffer the same fate if you attack!"
"Let me see her!"

"You know I can't let you do that, Dain. Not while those military guys are still alive. Go blast them to pieces; then we'll talk."

"I-I..."

"I won't be ordered around by the likes of you anymore!"

"Tch. I gave you your choice. Her tears are on your hands."

"...Dain?"

"Damn, where'd I put that key?! I need to get Elanore and run; maybe with Dain dead on the ground I'll have a chance..."

First, Kristijan spoke.
:"Sir! I don’t mean to be presumptuous, but I was wondering if maybe we could convince the villagers to surrender by pointing out that we beat that other rebel commander, sir! Now, I’m going to help Alana hold our line!"
Then he moved.
Kristijan optimistically stands at 9, 13, with Sword’s permission to change Alana’s move to 9, 14.
