Fer trailed off, and then shrugged widely, before changing the subject slightly.
:"Incidentally, we are actually going to be traveling to Xos in the near future in order to pick up another one of the Treasures, so I suppose our interests will be directly intersecting here. Maybe we can make an examination of things at the Tower and take a step towards acquiring more evidence for your theory. What sorts of things are you looking for there?"

Xanti's expression of surprise took over.

: You will?

: That's very convenient. Let's see, let me head to my study and bring the notes I have on the glyphs and what could be missing... Ideally you'd want to fill in the blanks, or see if anyone has figured out an alternative that ends up giving similar results. But the preferable thing would be discussing it with someone more knowledgeable than us and hear another point of view.

Xanti hurriedly left before anyone could protest it.

"I don't think the Old Gods are humans, as that would be absurd. However, the idea of them actually sharing the same world with us and with an actual physical form disturbs me."
"...Do you think they just had been watching us from afar this entire time?"

"I have to agree with Vortai; physical deities sound like trouble. In case your theory's correct their civilization should still exist, right?"

~~Chapter 9: Echoes From The Past~~



After leaving the House with one Treasure and two theories, the group traveled back to where they'd left the Blackbones and set sail towards open sea without a clear destination in mind.

Though the task the scholars received from Xanti, as well as the orb would lead them to Xos, on the way they'd have to take a detour into the unknown.

It was over a week later than they reached the approximate location that the orb indicated on the map, as suggested by the thick fog that surrounded them in short notice.

The fog had rolled in just a few hours ago, unnaturally fast, but no sign of any danger... yet.

: How far do you think we'll be able to spot a ship or land before either they attack us or we collide? Have any of you even seen fog like this before?

[Sirus]

: "Di's a coastal city. We certainly had plenty of fog depending on the season, but nothing like this."

Amberly attempted to shine magical light against the fog, but it almost seemed like the glow simply reflected back and made vision even worse, so she stopped.

[Chevaleresse]

"I'm no expert in weather, but this doesn't seem natural."

[SOLDIER First]

"I have not, no. It makes me distinctly uncomfortable. But, if nothing else, it might give us a mote of the element of surprise...”

Weeks before, Blake would have considered such an event to be a strange and improbable fantasy. But the strange and improbable seemed to follow Gawen and her companions everywhere they went. He wondered how long it took to acclimate to such unending unusuality.

All of a sudden everyone in the Blackbones could feel a chill, as the fog started to clear slightly around them.

: Something's coming. Get ready. Carmen rested her hand on her sword as she scanned the sea for any sign of what's to come.
