"Ah yeah, that."

"I was just curious about how much combat experience you had."

"Oh, I see. Probably not as much as this ship's crew, I just had to deal with the occasional robbery attempt when roaming."

[Haspen]

"I'm not sure what you bunch really want to do in this backwater, but sure. It seems that for once nobody's chasing us. Few hours loitering around won't hurt anybody." With that, Ethan retreated to his cabin.

[Caellath]

"And the captain said we are free to go."

[Sirus]

With permission given, Amberly decided to go for a walk through the town. Perhaps she would seek out a local temple?

[Solymr]

Amberly found a small temple away from most of the rest of the buildings in town. The temple looked a bit old and abandoned, but it was still serviceable.

[Sirus]

Amberly brightened at the sight. It was good to know that even in the literal last point of civilization, the faithful were given a place to worship, even one as...humble as this.

The nun attempted to go inside and see if anyone was there.

[Solymr]

The door however was locked and wouldn't budge. A random villager taking a walk saw the nun trying to enter.

Tryin' to pay yer respects, eh? Nobody 'ere does that anymore, the people have lost faith in the Ol' Gods, and this temple's pretty much abandoned, 'cept for the occasional traveler like you. Lemme help.

The villager came over and opened up the rudimentary locking system they had put.

The temple may be older than we can remember, but 's still good an' in one piece. Be sure to lock the door when yer finished.

The villager then resumed walking around.

[Sirus]

So it was completely abandoned? That was a shame.

: "Thank you for your help. I'll be sure to take good care of the place."

The nun walked inside, looking around curiously.

[Solymr]

The temple contained a few chairs, and a sizable altar in the centre. Some cabinets were around that used to hold whatever idols and paraphernalia the worshippers used in past times, but now it was all gone.

[Sirus]

The nun examined the alter, curious about how the locals would have made the thing.

[Chevaleresse]

"Well, Angelica, any ideas on where to start our search?"

[Solymr]

Upon inspection, the inscriptions on the altar were much more ancient that Amberly thought at first. Written in a forgotten language that, regardless of Amberly's ability to decipher it, revealed that it was built before the Reckoning.

[Sirus]

Amberly's eyes widened at her discovery, all thoughts of saying some brief prayers before wandering off forgotten. Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but if this altar dated from before the Reckoning, and they were looking for treasures from before the Reckoning, and they had just so happened to have been led to this faraway port...

Suddenly, the nun desperately wished that she had brought someone else along. Captain Ethan - heck, the entire crew probably - should be made aware of this discovery. It could well be a vital clue to their search...but she was worried that if she left the temple, the door would seal shut behind her and they'd have to find another local to open it. Or (and this was a superstitious worry, but one she couldn't dismiss) the altar would vanish into the ether while no one was around to examine it.

Cautiously, the nun peered outside, keeping the door open with her body, and hoping against hope that another one of her party was wandering within hailing distance.

With the go-ahead from Ethan, Ashlyn departed the ship and wandered into town. There wasn't much to see, Ethan had called it a backwater for a reason, so she took to wandering the town looking for anything particularly interesting.
