Maria got up... Slowly. She ended up placing her hand on Ashlyn's shoulder to help her get standing. That was a lot of blood on the deck... She hoped the sea would wash it away. What had even happened? She stabbed someone with a sword, there was a ballista... Right. That mage. Even if it was just spirits, those weren't good spirits. She was shaking, though at this point it was mostly from blood loss.

  "Fuck, that hurts... Thanks, Ash. I owe ya one!"

[Solymr]

: We... surrender. Men, make sure Carmen and her goons surrender as well. However, as Hakim was the only one still up and about, even the few men left on the other ship could easily restrain him.

: I'd like to leave this incident behind us. That woman Carmen has proven nothing but trouble, and I wish no more of that, so I'll take her into custody in the next port. And here-

Marthon lobbed a sack of gold to the Blackbones' deck, spilling quite a few coins.

: That's the money Carmen paid us in advance for this ill-fated fight. I neither want it nor deserve it. If you let us go, you can have it.

But there was something else on the deck. Alain could see Carmen dropped a trinket before going up in the air.

Ethan looked at the money, and rubbed his chin.

"I'm not really sure this is enough... maybe we should sink his ship anyways? What you think, guys?"

[Sutoratosu Akira]

Alain slammed the tome shut as the last of his flames died, and the threat the woman posed with them. It was only then however that he noticed what the fencer dropped, collecting it into his pocket. Whatever it was, examining it could wait till later.
"I'd advise letting them go, boss." he responded to Ethan "A mercenary giving up his coin like that? Well... there aren't many with either the honor or the sense to make the gesture. I've been keeping count of those ballistae shots too, they're either out by now, or nearly so. I don't think he'll give us anymore trouble than we've already gotten. And if he does, well burning to death in a tinderbox at sea is a terrible fate."

[Sirus]

Amberly looked horrified at the suggestion.

"What? No! They surrendered! There's no need to kill them or destroy their livelihood!"

[Chevaleresse]

"Listen to your crew, Valle," Gawen said as she hoisted herself up off of the deck using her lance as a prop. "They've paid their peace offering, there is no need for further death."

[Haspen]

The captain rubbed his face.

"I was hoping to intimidate him into squeezing out another bag of money for us. Oh well... I accept your surrender, good sir seaman."

[Solymr]

: Let us gather our dead and leave at once.

Marthon rubbed his face in defeat as his men carried the corpses of his other men to his ships, and Carmen and her squad bound in ropes below deck. Then he ordered the remaining mages to blow magic wind onto the ships' sails, speeding away, getting out of sight of Ethan and the crew.

They were free to continue their travel to Port Omega.

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Are there any other bounty hunters going after your group?"

[Sirus]

: "That was the second group we battled since I joined. I fear there may indeed be more."

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Well, that's concerning. The bounty must be big if this isn't the first time."

[Caellath]

Claude waited healing by propping himself back on one knee.

"And Carmen and one of her goons are still alive. Who knows, we might yet see more of her, or from more bounty hunters."

[Sutoratosu Akira]

"On the subject of that woman, I do beleive she said something along the lines of...what? 'This is about much more than just a bounty'? Something close to that; it was hard to hear exactly, over the roar of our spells blasting her to kingdom come. Either way, I'd hesitate to classify her as a simple Bounty Hunter. Not with skills like those, and not with a weapon like she wielded either..."

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Those truly are unpleasant news. If she is no ordinary bounty hunter, that means she won't be giving up. And  she might end up hiring even more goons too."

[Zetaark]

"Well, glad that's over with," Angelica mutters as she gets herself and her horse back up. After overhearing some conversation, she looks towards Lysander for some answers.


"So these people came after you before? Do you have any idea what they're after?
