By now the businessman-turned-swordsman was wondering whether the lack of armor was allowing the mages of their team to dodge so many hits. While Alain's dexterity could be explained by battle experience—what with the mage already being a mercenary before being hired—now he was being outperformed by someone who had apparently spent their life learning. That did prickle his pride a little.
