Amberly, having absolutely no experience with seacraft, beamed behind her veil.

: "It looks like a lovely ship. I'll get my things" - a small bag containing little more than a few books and some changes of clothes - "stowed right away. Perhaps then we'll have time to walk around the city before we depart?"

"Of course! I wanted to walk around a bit as well. I think Angelica might have been going shopping as well. We could try and meet up with her if you wanted. Or just go by ourselves. Maybe Ashlyn or some of the others would join up with us?"

The pair looked through the shops, each with some rather useful equipment. A few things caught Angelica's eye, but mindful of the amount of money they had, she decided to hear whether Gawen found something that suited her.

"Well Gawen, did you find something you like?

: "That sounds like fun. I'll be back momentarily."

Amberly scampered aboard the Blackbones, finding a safe place to stash her personal belongings. She held onto her tomes, however; after the poor showing the city guard had made last time, Amberly wanted to be able to protect herself in case of danger.

That task done, she returned to Lysander ready to explore the city and do some window shopping.

"Does anyone need something? I suppose Marlow could use throwing knives and Lavinia's lance has seen better days." Claude asked as he checked his notes.

"Hey steve." You speak into the air.
>Yes?
"Could you guys also make a hamburger out of this arm when they cut it off? I wanted to eat it just for the sake of tasting it."

Wandering through the city with Amberly, Lysander glanced in at the staff shop before shaking his head and continuing on.

"So if you've just been a student before this, how does it feel to be trusted to be a part of a mission like this? I'm guessing it was not what you expected..."

: "No, not at all. It's a little terrifying, to be honest. I can think of at least three full-fledged nuns that would probably be better suited for the job." Amberly paused at the entrance to a book store, gazing longingly inside before hurrying to catch up. "Still, we're taught that the Old Gods work in subtle ways. It may well be that Mantorok has a purpose for me on this mission."

"Oh well." With the absence of input, Claude started working on a preliminary purchase list...

Quote from: List
Party Gold: 1835g
Iron Lance 440g
Iron Knife 420g
Barrier 570g

Remaining: 405g

"If the smith keeps that tight grip on his prices I swear I'll look for his suppliers and check his profit margin."

Maria had mostly been in shock the entire time. Going into a temple of magic and being told that this orb that had been found on some pirate ship was going to be used to unite treasures that'll SAVE THE WORLD? She hadn't been paying the most attention, but this was still huge. Ophia had at least calmed down now, yet this journey was obviously going to involve a lot of magic... Maria figured that she should at least talk to someone that used it.

Before long she found the Anima mage... Oh, what was his name, Alain? Something like that; she idly heard it when they were being hired. With a deep breath and slightly shaking legs, she greeted him.

"Erm, um... Hi, you're Alain, right? I'm Maria, mind if I chat for a bit?"

The girl's usually cheery demeanor was replaced by stumbling over words and barely being audible. Partly from the fact that this was a mage she was talking to, and partly because Alain seemed... Was intense the way to put it? Perhaps confident, but in an "I know what I'm doing, don't try to stop me!" way? Intimidating, that was it!

"Hrm?" the mage looked up from his reading material as the girl approached, for once not the tome that had been pilfered off the wizard, but rather... some type of letter? He folded it away before she had much chance to look however, "Aye, Alain's the name... Maria eh? Yes, I think I recall now. And no, I don't mind at all- not like us mercenaries have much else to do but wait as our employers get ready. Go on, shoot."

He noted her general unease, but didn't see much point commenting on it at the moment. She was probably just green to this line of work, perhaps, a bit unsure of herself. Understandable, given this had officially gone from a simple escort job to a mission that supposedly involved the fate of the world itself.

At least, that's what he figured would be the topic here...

Once she got acknowledged, her unease went from the variant of being barely able to talk to talking a mile a minute. A few words got mangled together, but it was still comprehensible... Probably.

"Well, basically, with the whole deal of us having to go find magical weapons or treasures 'r something that control the fate of the world and we're gonna have to go all over to find them and the orb to find them is magic and-" She somehow stopped herself before she got out of hand.

"Er, we have to deal with a lot of magic, and well... I hate it, it's a bunch o' separate forces that can easily kill things with a flick of the wrist, and it looks hard to control and things go badly when it does go out of control..." She was probably talking his face off, wasn't she...

What a great way to start a conversation, wasn't it? Hopefully, she wouldn't do this every time...

"How does that even work!" She still found the mage a little intimidating, magic aside. At the very least, it could be worse...

"I....see," he said, taken aback just a bit with the flurry of her words. For the most part though, he'd gotten the gist "A bit apprehensive about the Arcane? Fair enough I suppose... just about anything can be intimidating if you aren't certain how or why it works. I'm probably not the best to ask about the in-depth workings of magic- I've never received a formal bit of training in my life, but I'll do my best."

He held up a hand, made as if he were going to snap his fingers, then seemed to think better of it and lower his arm back to his side.

"Hmmm... on second thought, perhaps a demonstration would... not be optimal, in your case. Well, no matter, not like it's terribly necessary to understanding this."

"Now, I assume you've at least heard of spirits, yes? All different types of them, Anima, Divine, Dark, etcetera? Well if not: the basic idea behind magic is that in all things, there's a small well of energy, and to each thing, there is also some sort of spirit attached, and these spirits differ depending on what exactly it is. Things related to the natural world for example, such as the primary elements of Fire, Thunder, and Wind, are governed by Anima Spirits, while things of more... esoteric natures are the domain of Divine and Dark spirits.
Anyone with at least of bit of talent for reaching out to these spirits, such as myself, can become a mage. And regardless which particular path they go down, all mages operate on the same fundamental principles: we create effects in the physical world by entreating with these governing spirits, using objects such a tomes, staves, and the like, as guides and focusing mediums to assist us. Those are the basics at least, it of course can, and does, go far deeper. Regardless, do you have any questions so far, Maria?"

"Hmm, well there was that other one sent with us. I... don't remember his name if I'm being honest. But maybe you two were sent both because you'll be helpful, but also because it will be good for you. You'll get experience and that sort of thing."

Maria flinched a little when the mage raised his arm, and it admittedly made her a bit more uneased at first. After the explanation, she seemed to have calmed down a little, but she was still on edge. She was intrigued, but cautious, having heard it before that it had something to do with spirits but not quite knowing how.

Quite frankly, it left her with more questions than answers, but if she was to ask all of her questions, it would be a never ending spiral and Alain would probably get tired quickly, so she asked only one.

"...You said etcetera for spirit types after the main three; how many even ARE there?"
