"Since I was young actually. I had an affinity for it and I personally enjoyed working with it. So much so, that I exhausted most of the resources available to try and study it. My town had some clerics I could learn from initially, but it didn't have all that much for studying healing magic to the degree I wanted. That's partially why I ended up leaving home to travel," she explains.


"Being able to travel has been good for my work, and improving my skills will be quite a benefit to myself and others," she finishes, taking a glance at Gawen.

"I very much agree. I know that working with the crew has really helped my abilities. I'm sure having someone to bounce ideas off of and train with will help even more. I even have this idea... Basically, I store a certain amount of healing magic inside my own body. And then if I get hurt too badly, I can use it to heal myself enough to keep myself standing. It's not perfect, and I won't always be able to react quickly enough, I don't think, but it's worth a try, you know?"

"Oh? That sounds like it could be quite useful if successful. Though as much as I'm interested in studying it, the means of which that would be accomplished wouldn't be something I'm too keen on trying myself for obvious reasons," she says as she frowns a bit. As interesting as this method sounds, she's not willing to smack Lysander with a sword to see how it works, and especially not after the earlier tension.

Claude joined Ashlyn and Ethan after he was invited closer.

"_{Under no circumstances the orb is to ever get into Gawen's hands. Claude, you watch Ashlyn's back carefully. Alright?}"

Gawen side-eyed the three as they gathered up, seemingly whispering to one another. She moved closer to her retainer as they traveled, who seemed to be engaged in conversation with, to be blunt, the least-untrustworthy-looking member of the group.
"Angelica. Pardon my brief interruption, but I would like to speak with you about a matter of some importance soon. Feel free to continue your conversation through its natural course, however."

"Great. We can move on then."

Gawen's request was a bit sudden, but she was glad that it wasn't immediate.


"Very well. When I'm free we can talk. Don't get yourself in another fight in the meantime alright?" she responds before turning her attention back to Lysander.

[Chevaleresse]

Gawen nodded.
"Good."
She drifted away from Angelica and Lysander, not wishing to intrude on the conversation. The noblewoman somewhat aimlessly looked about, searching for someone that she could speak with. Gawen was interested to learn more about this group of privateers, as distasteful as she found the practice; both out of simple curiosity about the people she would be traveling alongside and out of a slightly more practical need in case they decided to dispose of her somehow. Unfortunately, she wasn't sure which of them was openly hostile to her or not, which left her coming up rather blank as to who should be approached.

Amberly sighed. Even for someone with as little experience with strangers as herself, she could tell that things were likely going to be difficult between the privateers and the newcomer noblewoman. The nun half-wished that the Abbess had found someone else for this particular assignment.

Alain said nothing all throughout the.... discussion of who would carry the orb, nor did he say anything as they walked out of the tower and back into the desert sands. He didn't care, honestly- what he wanted was to do the job he was hired for and get just compensation, their spat had neither hide nor hair to do with that.
    Or at least, he most certainly hoped it wouldn't. Would be just his luck if it did though. Sighing, he continued to thumb through the pages of the newly acquired tome; just as he'd assessed during the battle, the thing really was nothing than a slightly modified Fire spell...

The wizard's scrawled notes however, were quite fascinating- bits and pieces of general magic theory he'd never had the chance to train in... not that he had any intention of beginning now. That ship had long since sailed, as far as he was concerned. None of this had ever been an exact science to him- trial and error perhaps, yes, but that was as close as it ever got... sheer resolve was what had guided his hands all those years, not some expensive formal knowledge.

Still, it was leagues more engaging than the obvious air of mistrust between his employers and one of their new companions.

Now that she was free from Ethan's need to tell her something she would've done anyway, Ashlyn decided that it was a good time to help Lysander practice with his knifes. However, someone had beat her to it! Well, that had never stopped her before.

"Oi, Lys, you up for some training? Er, if you're not in the middle of something else, that is."

Vortai now understood why he was called for this task, with how the group was behaving and apparently oblivious of his arrival yet. It was awkward to follow a group without knowing anything about them, but the safety of the orb was still priority. Plus this did sound like the opportunity he was looking for; practice what he learned and possibly learn more.
"May I know where your group found this orb? I am honestly curious how you managed to reach it."

Ethan moved closer to Vortai after hearing the question.

"Got it from a crazy old man on a ship we plundered."
