After trying to negotiate some citrus, the group headed to the actual tower. The way was well kept and guarded, while the forests surrounding were ominous enough to deter any excursions. The tower kept growing as they got closer to it, until they were finally at the threshold of the entrance.

: This is... not what I expected. I thought the city would be around the Tower, not inside it.

The first floor of the tower looked very much like a marketplace, with several higher floors overlooking the central area.

". . . Are you sure it is not acceptable to describe this as strange? Because this is strange."

Ethan smirked, placing his hands on his waist and looking around.

"Well, how else did you think they would get money for all the rare stuff they buy from abroad? Rare ingredients don't come cheap, moreso magical ones, I would think."

"Seems easy to grow out of these walls."

Lavinia had grown out of her own hometown, after all. Hard for her to guess if Ashlyn had felt the same. Even as part of Ethan's crew before all of this, there hadn't been much reason to talk about magic or towers between the two of them.

"Obviously they would have markets, but it's rather queer to have one entirely indoors."

: "Fascinating! I had heard rumors about how everyone in Xos lived inside a tower, but I always assumed they were exaggerations or fanciful stories. Perhaps the city extends underground as well, to provide more space?"

Amberly gazed around at the multi-tiered marketplace in wonder.

Fer let out a whistle; his thoughts were still tinged with a distinct sense of impending doom at their edges, following off of his previous train of thought about how bad things tended to happen to all the magical wonderlands they visited, but there was no denying that Xos was a wonderland as far as he was concerned.
:"Strange might be one word, you know... but, wow, I think incredible might really be another! This entire city must in some way or another tie into the magical research that Xos does."
:"Maybe it's the case that putting up high level shielding magic is easier between experimental and residential floors of the tower than between the entire tower and the terrain outside of it, allowing for easier protection from any experimentation accidents. Maybe it's the case that some sort of cataclysm previously or effect of the original upturning of the world here has made the Tower the safest place from the outside world. All things to consider! There was that mist, after all, for one, and it may not be an isolated phenomenon..."
:"In any event, archaeology and preservation are one thing, but just looking at this place makes me suspect that I will have to give up the title of number one magical research city to Xos very quickly. An entire city devoted to research... if I'm not wrong, I have to admit that blows anywhere else out of the water. I am deeply impressed!"

He shot looks over other to his fellow Magical Nerds.
:"Would you two like to see what sorts of magic researchers and vendors might be around? I'd love to just talk to them, although of course a new tome might not go amiss; I've finally cleared all of the sigiling clear off of the fire tome I got handed down from the crew's previous fire mage."

"Let's hope the art of blacksmithing has kept up with arcane study here."

Gawen found that Xos' weaponsmiths had nothing to envy to Alvada's or Domiria's, at least in terms of quality. The lack of demand and production coming from experimental measures meant the weapons on sale were pretty much one of a kind.

Amberly reacted to Fer's invitation with a radiant smile.

: "Oh yes, I'd love to look around! We may be able to gain some insight into Xos' history, or learn something about these relics we've been collecting. As for tomes, I have one or two that should probably be retired before they burn out on me."

:"Great! Let's go, then. I'm curious to see how they organize their tome shops, too... back at the library we had our lesser tomes that we'd since figured out how to consistently and easily replicate out front in the shop and the archive in the larger wealth of the library in back, but since Xos is obviously a much larger and multifarious affair, maybe this is just the life's work of one or a few mages in particular, running a business down here... or maybe it's something similar, where a research group has a tome-selling front down here to get funds from the more easily-usable fruits of their research..."

His thoughts starting to descend into mumbling, Fer started moving (having the presence of mind at least to occasionally check to make sure he hadn't lost the other two) in search of a tome shop or Other Magely Location.
