[Praefectus Screptum]

:"I hope Xanti made it through all of that alright. But I suspect he probably is, based on the ease of that Silence, earlier. Man, though... seeing him again in the middle of all of this. What a context. What a context..."

"I am sure he is fine. But I think it is about time you sort things out with him, until then you haven't been very...clear on what happened between you two. And your failed attempt to explain our situation earlier makes it very clear that awkwardness isn't quite gone yet."
Vortai turned his head to the side as soon as he head that familiar voice.
"Speak of the demon...devil? I suppose it is devil."
"Yes, you could say we had been busy here. The order for them to commit suicide happened as soon as we took down the figure in charge of this attack. I am not completely sure what he was babbling about, to be honest. I am almost sure he is connected to the 'false' king who is currently hunting us down, but I really was not aware so many of these students were spies waiting for this."
"...Either that or formed some sort of cult behind our backs during this entire time, only revealing their true colors now. So there is the possibility of this false king reaching them only recently to strike a deal. Otherwise I feel like this attack would have happened sooner."

[Solymr]

: This is related to what's going on in the capital? Unbelievable... Their actions run counter to any logic I could think of. Xanti looked over at the debris in the room, and then at Zaku's body. But you did deal with him yourselves, in a quite impressive manner. The most pressing question first: what about the Abbess? I'm guessing you haven't returned to her yet. Constant muffled beeping were audible from Xanti's robes.

[Powder Miner]

:"He locked the Abbess into a vault she was in, essentially by going in and stealing a key she needs. We need to identify a key to get her out, but by the sounds of it, what the key actually is and how it works is something theoretically only she should have known in the first place."

(Also, Vortai was right. But, damn it... Fer was barely sure what to say to Xanti outside of explaining the situation. He wasn't even sure if Xanti blamed him for any of their family troubles or not, but he'd spent so long convincing himself that Xanti would that it was paralyzing. Still, it wasn't like he'd get the chance if he didn't work up the courage at some point while he was here.

Well, okay, there was one thing he could still find the voice to ask about immediately.)

:"By the way, uh, what is that sound?"

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Based on what we saw and heard, it seems to be the case, yes. I can only hope the other students in the other floors aren't related to them...assuming there are still others alive."
"Yes, I am also curious. Isn't that beeping related to the device you used earlier to communicate with the Abbess? If it is, why is it beeping?"

[Solymr]

: The Abbess has been communicating with me in her usual manner, which leads me to believe she's doing fine. Did you find anything on Zaku?

[Powder Miner]

:"We found a couple of objects on his body. One is some form of rune, and the other is some sort of disc. Amberly was taking a look at them."

[Solymr]

Xanti looked at the objects Amberly was holding.

: Couldn't be the rune, but the disc might, being magical and all that. Let's go to the Abbess' study.

While leaving to the study Xanti observed the former door as well and made some remarks.

: How did you do that to the door and to him with the runes he was using? Zaku was renowned for reinforcement and armor seals, it must have taken some serious power to break through all that.

In the study, Xanti waited to be pointed at the vault door and knocked on it.

: Abbess? Abbess, it's me, Xanti. You can stop using the beeper now.

I was bored! You all were taking #%!$& ages. I take it Vortai, Amberly and the others are with you, seeing that you know where to knock? And that Zaku has left the building?

: They are, and he has. They've found some items on his person, but nothing that looks like a "key".

The key looks like a deceptively resilient disc. Did Zaku try to eat it?

: I don't think so... There was indeed a disc, but we haven't tested it's resilience-

Good enough for me! Listen up, boy, you're about to learn. You see the brick marked with the Sun symbol above you? Count 5 bricks down and 3 to the left, and insert the disc in the gap between that brick and the one further left.

Though confused, Xanti did as asked and managed to find the gap among dozens of identical ones. Though it seemed solid enough, when the disc's edge was pressed into it it absorbed the disc. After some whirring noises, the vault's door opened and the Abbess rushed through, grabbing Xanti's cheeks.

: I could kiss you, if there weren't some heretic asses that I need to vaporize straight to hell! The Abbess rushed again through the study's door, but Carmen interjected.

: They're all dead already. Mass suicide.

: Dammit! I needed to release some bolts of judgment to calm my anger at having to reveal one of the biggest secrets to outsiders, but I still need to bring order back to this house. Wait for a moment.
Some time later, the group was at the Abbess' study again, with a basket of food on the desk, while the Abbess sat down again.

: Bloody &%#$, that took some doing. Where were we?

: The ring this mysterious man gave you long ago.

: Right. I have it here, now you- She pointed a bony finger at Ethan. -need to see if it does anything. Because back there in the White Room it flashed intensely for a second while I was there, and I don't know what that means.

[Haspen]

"Do I eat it?" Ethan asked with a smirk, before putting the ring onto his finger.

[Solymr]

As soon as Ethan put on the ring a surge of energy coursed inside him, causing a quite painful reaction.

: Aren't you glad you didn't eat it?

: Should I be worried?

But the pain soon subsided as Ethan became used to the ring's power, feeling ready to unleash it.

[Haspen]

"Yuurgh... so, what does it do?"

[Solymr]

The Abbess gave her best impression of a shrug.

: How am I supposed to know? Not for lack of trying mind you! There's training grounds in the House, we can go and blast some dummies if you feel able.

[Haspen]

"Hrrm, fine I guess."

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Huh. Peculiar. But then again, we saw plenty of odd things at this point."
"Speaking of peculiar...I do believe you have some catching up to do with your sibling, Fer."

[Chevaleresse]

"Well, this is something that smells like good news for once. We've had precious little of that, lately."

[Caellath]

"Hopefully more are to follow." Claude had elected to get some support from Lavinia after leaving the killing grounds.
