The Abbess seemed disappointed at the tameness of Fer's cursing, muttering something like _{"I've said worse after stubbing my toe."} but let them continue.

: I have no idea why, but it's been brewing for a long time. Might even be more elaborate than you think. But if they come here we'll get a good warning ahead, don't you think we have people watching the desert from afar?

The Abbess stood up from her comfy chair and walked towards the wall.

: It's about time I got off my ass and went to grab the damn ring already. And quit yer bitchin', it shouldn't take long. And no, I can't just have someone else go get it because this is not only a high secret that you're only seeing because of the current emergency, nobody else knows how to work this arcane piece of vault. I'll only tell you this: each time the outer door opens, the way to open it may change at random. And that's just the first door.

And she opened the wall, which had a hidden door within it. Beyond it, as far as the people could peek, it was a pure metallic white chamber with a few unintelligible symbols on the walls. Then she closed it behind her.

Oi! What the hell? Someone's been here before! Then a long string of muffled cursing came from behind the wall, along with another voice!

: Ahahahaha! I've been waiting for this moment a long time. Now that the master has given the order, it's time to take over the House of Scholars, and at the same time, eliminate you, Ethan! Prepare to face the Old Gods' wrath!

Is that Zaku?! That sonofa*$%&*%$%&!&*!&* must have been the one to take the key I need to open the vault again!

Zaku's voice resonated more potently this time, spreading throughout the entirety of the building.

Attention to all present! The Abbess has been attacked by her guests at her office! By Atan's will, you must save her!

The announcement had likely turned everyone in the House of Scholars against the group, but it had given them some information as well. Vortai knew where the announcement room, and thus Zaku, was located, and it was adjacent to the Abbess' office.

Meanwhile Amberly knew, there was no Old God named Atan.

"So she's stuck in there? Seems strange to need a key to get out but not in."

"Not stranger than these scholars being so willingly to fight us without even understanding the situation. You would expect them to be more reasonable and study the situation first."
"After all, this is not the first time we had been around here-And me and Amberly in specific had been residing here for a while, so we aren't all strangers..."

: "This makes no sense at all! I would have thought that members of the House of Scholars would be wise enough to not instantly believe such an outrageous claim. Especially when it's our second visit here and the Abbess has personally met with us!

"And...and who is this 'Atan'? There's no Old God by that name! I wonder if that word is the trigger phrase for some sort of powerful enchantment that the Scholars are under..."

The Abbess responded to the knock.

Ocupado! Did you think this was one of those magic doors? No dice!

: Trigger phrase? No, what if it's just a code phrase? The Abbess said that ring has been here for many years now, but that's not the only thing planted in this place. If you ask me, this Zaku has been infiltrating the House of Scholars with his own people, waiting until he got the order to strike.

Zaku is one of the most veteran scholars around, and yet what you say makes sense! He was always on his own, and I heard him muttering about some Atan nonsense by himself. Get me that sonofabitch's ass on a platter!

: Just in case I am wrong, try reasoning with the scholars incoming regardless. I doubt it's possible that every single scholar is an infiltrator, but if there's any confusion it will present an opportunity for them.
