I think I found a solution!

While trying to come up with a way to help our trapped friend, I found a Scroll of Comprehend Languages that I had made some time back. If I activate it, I will be able to read those runes...unless by being transferred through the scroll, they become "magic writing", in which case it won't work.

Mr. Acter, you made these things. Have you experimented with using magic on writing transferred from one scroll to another?

Mate, I don't remember what features I gave this thing. The curses are blocked because I once got a troll sorcerer who got ahold of a scroll and started turning all the other users into ducks. Not your fault, but no curses.

Well I've gone through basically everything Google Translate, Reverse Image Search, and brief forays into Wikipedia can tell me and I've got nothing. I even tried the Elven language Tolkien invented! Are these just made-up symbols or is it something really REALLY obscure?

Yes, I did try quite a few East Asian languages first. But there were problems.

See, when I tried to translate 1 2 3, I just got 1 2 3. When I tried to translate the words "one two three", I got this: 一二三
Looking around at some alternate English->Mandarin translators, I don't see any symbols like yours. Not for simple numbers anyway.

Dude, I've already spent a few hours banging my head against languages. I'm not going to hunt for software, hope that it's virus-free and doesn't want money, get it installed without wrecking something on my computer, and use my shoddy skills to hopefully recreate those drawn symbols to the satisfaction of said software, all on the off-chance that Doubloon didn't use a completely different language or just make the symbols up and I could have spouted out any random combination to solve the "puzzle".

I'll wait till he comes back and hopefully clears things up.
