Why did my bank note turn into a conversation?

Who are you, and what have you done with the highway robbery I was going to receive in exchange for my smithing services?

Because it's actually magic.  It's still on the scroll, just keep spinning it.

After a couple minutes, more writing appears on the scroll.

...Who's using a scroll to keep a receipt on anyway?

This scroll has been giving me new insight on mankind ever since I first got it. Every time something like this happens, I feel better about eating any humanoid that comes to my lair, as it reminds me their kind really is hopeless.

*sigh*

It's a telecommunications scroll. I made a bunch and scattered them around a decade or so ago because I was bored. They've only just started being found - or started working, potentially. seriously, I testing these things before spreading them, why the hell did that happen

Well, guess you weren't very good at testing. You should've used it to repeatedly disembowel various straw dummies, and hit metal shields until---wait a minute, we're testing scrolls, not new poleaxes. Ah well.

Anyway, who might I be ta---, er, writing to?

Harrumph.

Anyway, I'm curious...what happens if you scribe a spell into the scroll?

Two possibilities I can see:

One, it won't work since the scroll is already magical. It'd just be words and runes written on paper, no real effects.

Two, it would overwrite the already-imbued magic and become a normal spell scroll. AKA a one-use spell that even laypeople can use.

Okay, I'm still in the white void, but I dropped the scroll once, and it kind of just... fell past my feet. Phased through the "ground". this place is really screwing with my head, and time seems to be different. I don't seem to be getting thirsty, tired or hungry, so that's good. Still, it's giving me a headache staring at it. Anyhow, I just kept on moving forward, and I found the scroll lying on the "ground". It doesn't seem to have a limit, and from what I remember by the show a traveling demiplane wizard put on a few months ago, these things kinda stretch space so that directions as a whole don't really exist, and it's like walking around a tiny sphere even though the surface seems perfectly flat- I'm getting out of hand, and probably don't even make any sense. I'm going to try seeing if this place is "real" as in, three-axis movement or not.

Ah, thanks. By the way, I can actually phase through everywhere, floating around. Worryingly, I just noticed something. So, I found a copper coin that fell out of my pockets a while back... and it's gotten... fuzzy. the center is still rigid, though the figure silhouette is... odd looking. When I try to touch the edges, it feels like I'm putting my hand through cold honey. ...Is there any standardized scale for reality levels? Like, 1 for our plane, a higher level for places without any sort of magic or flight... Less than one for places like this? I'm getting the worrying thought that the more I stay in here, my insides are turning to goop.

I dunno. I'll integrate some stabilization magic into the circle, though. It should be ready in half an hour.

Whoops, sorry for going quiet! I was preparing for the Interplanar Wizarding Expo, which is in two days. Traveling between the planes might be easy for some wizards, but for me...well, it takes some prep time. Runes to be inscribed, components prepared, all those things. Plus packing. It's always wise to be prepared for anything when you get a bunch of wizards gathered in one place!

This darn scroll started glowing in the middle of a very delicate process.

Do you know how distracting glowing things are when you're working in a dark room hammering on a piece of metal to turn it into the best weapon you've ever made?

Just in case any of you wanted an update on Darian: he's back, and, as far as I can tell, fine. He's tired right now, though, so I have him up in one of the spare bunks. I've got a doctor coming to take a look at him.
