Celling picked it up. "Hello," says the wavering male voice on the other side of the line. "This is Jacob Eldin and Anna Drimoxi. We want to negotiate.”

Celling sighs. "What do you want, Jacob?" Celling asks fiercely.

"I believe we have a common enemy who we encountered at the docks," says Jacob. "This Secondborn of the Cisharni can't possibly be a good thing for you. I'm offering an alliance. We help you, and you help us."

"How do you propose such a thing?" asks Celling.

"You have come into possession of a device known as the Key of Taloc, right?"

How do you respond?

One of your scientists taps Celling on his shoulder and he turns, covering the phone. It's a middle-aged guy with short gray hair. “They claim they can reassemble they Key? They may be telling the truth, Celling. We did an analysis of the pathways in the crystal shards that we collected. We didn’t get much, but we did find evidence of a deeply-redundant re-initialization sequence, equipped to reconstruct the entire Key, set to fire upon checking some security consideration from the user. It may well be waiting for Boonering to pick it up, and anyone related to him may be near enough.”

Celling turns back to the phone. “So what?” he asks.

“We’ve got such a person,” Anna says, her voice worried but clearly confident. “Fredrik Boonering had a son, Joel Voy Boonering. You bring the Key fragments to us, and we can have J.V. recreate it. In exchange, we want Samael Drimoxi, Andrew Calvin, and Julia Seyllin freed.”
